Jenrry Mejia left the game in the 2nd inning with right shoulder stiffness after facing just two batters in the 2nd inning and throwing 44 pitches. This could turn out to be a blessing in disguise if it turns to the Mariners off from asking for Mejia in any trade talks and letting them settle for Fernando Martinez+. What has been impressive about Sean Ratliff since being promoted is that he has hit 3 of his 4 home runs off lefties including the one today. He still needs to improve on his plate discipline though. Chris Schwinden deserves a pat on the back for coming in earlier then expected and not only keeping his team in the game, but also picking up the win.
HiA – St. Lucie Mets
It only took until his last start in June, but Jeurys Familia finally got his first win of the season! Take a quick look at how bad Richard Lucas’ season has been after being a ‘sleeper’ before the season .208/.286/.346 with a 19:78 K:BB ratio!! That is some of the worst plate discipline of anyone in the whole minor league system not to mention he has just 14 extra base hits all season. Wilmer Flores has been trying to break out of his slump lately with 2 hits yesterday and 4 more today and hey he made no errors today! The offense on a whole was just locked in today.

Game suspended in 3rd inning
SSA – Brooklyn Cyclones
I like the power and patience Cory Vaughn is showing at the plate. If he can start getting some more hits he will have a really solid first season. Think about it this way he already has 2 more home runs in Brooklyn than Ike Davis ever hit. Darrell Ceciliani continues to put up great numbers and showing good pop for a younger guy in the league.

This loss raises Eric Brown’s consecutive lose streak all the way up to 7. The dude has been straight up awful this year do not know why he is still starting I would much rather have a bag of balls on the mound. The offense didn’t help him out much with only 5 hits. Ruben Tejada had the only XBH and Jose Coronado had the only RBI.

The offense jumped on the opposition early and often tallying 11 runs in just 3 innings. The offense was led in part by a 4-4 performance by Wilmer Flores who by Mike Newman’s account hit the ball “hard and all over the field”, a very encouraging sign from the youngster. Sean Ratliff drove in 2 runs and Eric Campbell drove in 3. Kyle Allen was spectacular, but was extremely solid yet again. 09 draft pick John Church is putting up some good stats out of the pen using his somewhat ‘power arsenal’.

Great day for 2009 draft picks. Nick Santomauro went deep for the first time in his minor league career, Robbie Shields was moved up to the 2 spot (like I said to do with him) and it worked going 2-3 with a triple and walk, Darin Gorski picked up his first win with 6 innings of 2 hit ball, and Wesley Wrenn pitched 2 scoreless innings with 2 k’s.

He gave up 8 baserunners in those 1.2 innings including 5 hits and 3 walks. Get Connor Robertson out of the organization. Scott Moviel made his first start back from his injury and rehab starts in the GCL and was pretty solid through 5 innings. He kept the walks down to only 1. Only concern for me is the 11 flyball outs. Just a little too many especially seeing as Moviel is supposed to be a groundball pitcher. Another Met team with no offense with just Zach Lutz (2-3 2BB, RBI) and Greg Veloz (2-5) getting multi hit games.
