Dylan Owen actually pitched pretty well despite giving up 4 runs. He got into a little trouble with 2 singles and a walk before giving up all 4 runs on a grand slam. He did a great job responding to the slam by striking out 4 of the next 6 batters to come to the plate. The Bisons were baffled offensively as they did not get a runner into scoring position after the 1st inning until the 8th inning when 2 batters were hit by a pitch and one was walked to load the bases, but the last batter struck out.
AA – Binghamton Mets

Two great pitched games from the BMets staff. Today was the day of lefties in the Mets organization as Michael Antonini continued the trend started by Jon Niese by pitching a complete game and striking out 7 while walking none. Antonini only gave up 4 hits including a home run. Kirk Nieuwenhuis‘s 2-run home run and Luis Hernandez‘s solo shot was all the BMets would need in the morning half of the double header.
Josh Stinson has really been great since moving back into the rotation. In his 3 games as a starter Stinson is pitching to a 1.84 ERA and has given up just 2 hits in each start. He’ll have to improve on his 7:8 K:BB, but if he isn’t giving up any hits thats not a big deal. The offense scattered 7 hits including 3 doubles scoring their only runs on sac flies from Captain Kirk and Eric Campbell.
HiA – St. Lucie Mets

An encouraging outing out of Kyle Allen after 2 consecutive poor outings. The key tonight was the 0 walks as Allen has uncharacteristically struggled with his command this season pitching to a K:BB of 36:37. He is still keeping the ball in the park and getting his ground balls, but the high walks and low strikeout totals are very concerning after such a stellar year in LoA. I think within in a month Reese Havens should get promoted to AAA and move Josh Satin up to AA because he is needs to be challenged more and keeping a 25-year-old in the FSL isn’t going to do that. I’m loving he combo of Jordany Valdespin and Stefan Welch who have really been the linchpins of the Mets roster.
LoA – Savannah Sand Gnats

Whatever they are feeding the lefties in this system keep doing it. Jon Niese had a near perfect game, Michael Antonini had a complete game victory, Michael O’Connor was the only Bisons pitcher to not give up a run, Jimmy Johnson pitched 2/3 scoreless innings, Roy Merritt pitched a scoreless inning to pick up a save, and now Mark Cohoon completely dominating allowing just 4 base runners for a complete game shutout. The 14 ground balls outs by Cohoon is just insane. The offense made it easy for him with bombs from Michael Fisher, Wilmer Flores, and Alonzo Harris. Jefry Marte was the only player without a hit.

Jeff Kaplan pumping out the strikeouts today recording 9k’s in only 6 innings of work by far his best since being moved up to St. Lucie. Stefan Welch has continued to rake with 2 more doubles and is now batting .474 in 38 HiA at-bats. Yes, small sample size yet encouraging. He does have 6 xbh in just 9 games.

Weird, but good outing for Chris Schwinden who was very hittable giving up more hits than inning pitched, but was still able to last 8 innings and give up only 2 runs. The offense was held down by Dexter Carter, the minor league leader in K’s, to just 3 hits and had 4 hits total. Jefry Marte had the only xbh, but oh yeah committed his 34th eror.

Fellow 2009 draft pick Brian Needham was great in relief going 4.2 scoreless striking out 3 batters. Jeff Flagg will probably be promoted to Brooklyn soon as the Wilpon’s will want to get some bats up there for their baby.
