AAA – Lucas Duda (1-for-3, HR, RBI, R, BB)
AA – Raul Reyes (2-for-4, HR, 5 RBI, R, K)
HiA – Jordany Valdespin (3-for-5, 2 RBI, R)
LoA – Alonzo Harris (2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R)
SSA – Cory Vaughn (2-for-3, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB)
RK – Javier Rodrgiuez (3-for-5, 2B, R, K, outfield assist)
GCL – OFF
AAA – Buffalo Bisons
Dilllon Gee pitched a stellar game today it is to bad he couldn’t have pitched this well all season because then we could have tried to swing him in a Lee trade. Boy has Lucas Duda been raking since being promoted to AAA.
AA – Binghamton Mets
The same old story continued today with Eric Niesen. He got decent results, but continued to struggle with his command. If he doesn’t start attacking hitters soon with his plus stuff then he is never going to be able to make it further in his development and become a starter in the bigs. Emary Frederick did a great job coming in and stranding two of Eddie Kunz’s inherited runners. In the third inning the BMets got a coupe of bloops followed by a walk which allowed Raul Reyes to come up and strike again, this time with a grand salami. This is the second straight game Sean Ratliff has taken a walk with no strikeouts.
HiA – St. Lucie Mets
Mets pitching gave up 3 runs on just 6 hits thanks to an incredible 8 walks! They did strike out 7 batters, but just wow 8 walks. It was a bitter sweet start for Brad Holt who only gave up 1 run and 2 hits while striking out 5 in 5 inning, however, is control was still an issue also delivering 5 walks. Something tells me the success was more due to the level of competition than Holt actually getting things straightened out. Nothing looked noticeably different in the videos from last year to this year so it is really odd how big of a 180 he has undergone. It is amazing that the offense had 15 hits yet just 1 went for extra bases (double from Richard Lucas). Wilmer Flores was at it again today with 3 more hits and now has 13 hits in just 6 games for St. Lucie. Because it was a day game Carlos Beltran DHed and picked up a hit now reaching base in every rehab game so far. He will play center field tomorrow.
LoA – Savannah Sand Gnats
John Church was reportedly hitting 93-94 mph tonight on the gun which would be a tick above previous velocity reports. Church had put up good numbers the last couple of years so if the velocity sticks he could make some noise as a legitimate prospect. Nick Santomauro continued the climb back up to .200 with another hit today. You know you are in the low minors when a game has 7 errors in it. Alonzo Harris had the biggest blow of the night hitting a 3-run jack in the sixth inning.
SSA – Brooklyn Cyclones
How can you not love what Cory Vaughn is doing right now? He now has 3 home runs in his last 3 games and has hit 4 more home runs in Brooklyn than Ike Davis. Not only that, but his biggest flaw was supposed to be plate discipline and he is currently rocking a 7:5 K:BB. It is a small sample size, but a very encouraging one.
RK – Kingsport Mets

I still think it was a terrible draft pick, but hey at least Javier Rodriguez is actually doing something now.

AAA – Jorge Padilla (3-for-5, HR, 2 R, 3 RBI)
AA – Sean Ratliff (3-for-5, 2 HR, 3 R, 5 RBI, 2 K)
HiA – Raul Reyes (1-for-2, HR, R , RBI, BB) and Richard Lucas (1-for-3, HR, R, 2 RBI)
LoA – OFF
SSA – Darrell Ceciliani (2-for-5, 2 R. 2 RBI, 2 K)
RK – Aderlin Rodriguez (3-for-4, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 2 R)
GCL – Juan Urbina (5 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 3 K)
AA – Binghamton Mets

Boy do Josh Satin and Sean Ratliff like hitting in Bingy. Since getting out of the unfriendly confines in Florida the two have been on an absolute tear. Ratliff’s hot streak reminds me of Kirk Nieuwenhuis‘s last season, who is oddly the person he is replacing while Kirk is hurt. This game was actually close for the longest time, although you wouldn’t be able to tell by looking at the score, which is why Josh Stinson didn’t get a win despite pitching another great ball game.
HiA – St. Lucie Mets

Brad Holt‘s season is just really really depressing.
SSA – Brooklyn Cyclones

Just about every single night Darrell Ceciliani shows that he is the best player on the field.
RK – Kingsport Mets

Do you think Aderlin Rodriguez knows how to make a good first impression or what? Just a great game from the youngster who the Mets have been more careful with than most big money Latin signees.
What I Saw: July 11th, 2009 Savannah Sand Gnats vs. Lexington Legends
Posted by: | CommentsRaul Reyes has a nice swing, but must work on his pitch selection.
Ross Seaton is a pretty damn good pitcher. Good 2-seam fastball.
I am loving the cheerleaders in between innings.
Robert Carson complete domination of the Lexington lineup as he throws 2nd 9-inning complete game shutout in the SAL league.
Robert Carson’s pitchcount: 22 Balls – 70 strikes = 92 total pitches.
Carson threw mostly fastballs that he located with perfection that the Legends just simply could not hit. The fastball was mostly 88-90 and he did hit 92 once. He could throw the fastball up, down, in, out no matter what the pitch was just unhittable. He threw some sliders that went as high as 86 mph. He did a good job keeping it down getting grounders with it when he threw it. I saw only a handful of change ups that he didn’t really need to use, but threw a few and located them well. Nothing bad from Carson on the night.
1st inning:
- Jefry Marte jumped on a first pitch fastball that was high to clobber it into deep left field for a homerun.
- Robert Carson – GB to 2nd (2 pitches), BB (6 pitches), GB to 2nd (3 pitches), GB to 2nd (3 pitches) 5 balls – 9 strikes. Touched 90 mph.
- Poor turn of attempted double play by Imbewer Alvarez.
- Pelligrini looks like a house!
2nd inning:
- Eric Campbell worked the count nice for a leadoff walk.
- Leblanc had a nice inside-out swing of a ball to right field.
- Robert Carson – K via fastball (3 pitches), GB to SS (1 pitch), GB to 2nd (1 pitch) 0 balls – 5 strikes (all fastballs)
3rd inning:
- Marte attempted to bunt for a hit, but was barely thrown out.
- Sean Ratliff struck out looking on a nasty two-seam fastball
- K via fastball (4 pitches), GB 3rd base (1 pitch), K looking via fastball (5 pitches), 3 balls-7 strikes. Slider came in at 86 mph.
4th inning:
- Again Campbell showing great plate discipline
- Robert Carson – single into right field (2 pitches), GB to SS (2 pitches), K via changeup (5 pitches) 2 balls-7 strikes
- After 4 pickoff attempts Carson finally picked off his man.
- Great pick at first base by Campbell.
5th inning:
- Evan LeBlanc another nice job taking it the opposite field this time high off the wall for a double.
- Robert Carson – GB to SS error (3 pitches), FO to center (4 pitches), GB to 2nd (4 pitches), pickoff (1 pitch) 2balls -10 strikes
- Pickoff was all the batters fault he simply took off to early.
6h inning:
- Gnats get lucky run on a batched ground ball by the Legend’s shortstop. Very routine play he messed up.
- Not showing from Leblanc time pulling a fastball into left field for an RBI.
- Leblanc showing nice speed scoring all the way from first.
- Robert Carson – FO to left field (1 pitch, infield hit to SS (2 pitches), FO to center field (8 pitches), GB to 3rd base (2 pitches) 2 balls-11 strikes
7th inning:
- Marte had an 0-2 count and battled back to get a walk.
- Ratliff just missed a homerun hitting one HIGH off the wall in right field for a single.
- Josh Satin thrown out at home on a ball hit relatively shallow in right field.
- Robert Carson – GB to 3rd base (4 pitches), K looking via slider (7 pitches), FO to left field (3 pitches) 7 balls- 7 strikes
8th inning:
- Marte put a great swing on a ball off the wall into left for an RBI single.
- Robert Carson – K swinging via fastball (3 pitches), FO to left field (1 pitch), single on line drive to left field (1 pitch), K swinging via fastball (4 pitches) 1 ball-7 strikes
9th inning:
- Robert Carson – GB to 2nd (4 pitches), K swinging via fastball (3 pitches), linedrive out to 2nd(4 pitches) 4 balls – 7 strikes

After Eric Niesen gave up 3 runs on 4 hits and a walk in the first inning then the B-Mets battled back in the bottom of the inning to take the lead on a Lucas Duda grand slam. It’s nice for Duda to show some kind of power of just .113 on the season. Niesen’s stats have just been bitter-sweet since moving to AA with good strikeout rates, but poor ERA and having been too hittable.

It appears that Brant Rustich has been put in a full time bullpen role. Rustich was victimized by Jake Eigsti and Zach Lutz errors plus his own poor pitching to give up 5 runs and 1 earned run before being bailed out by Josh Stinson who came in to strikeout the last two hitters of the innign.

Robert Carson had by far his worst start of the season lasting just 1.2 innings and giving up his 2nd homerun of the year. Giving up 7 hits while getting just 5 outs is Oliver Perez territory. Phillips Orta has been much much better of late piching to a 1.50 ERA in June and keeping the walks down to 2 in 6 innings.
