Fernando Martinez’s pinch hit home run gives him a home run in two consecutive games and 3 in his last 4 games to go along with 6 RBI’s.  After a gigantic 2 games homerless streak Lucas Duda cracked a 3-run in the 7th to help spark the comeback.  Look at his stats from the last 8 days.  The power/patience is just ridiculous.

AAA – Buffalo Bisons

Recently demoted Raul Valdes got the start of Dylan Owen and pitched fairly well.  He only lasted 4 innings, but struck out 7 and only made one mistake, a home run to Stefan Gartell.  Owen still pitched in the game by piggy backing Valdes and got hit hard yet again giving up 3 hits, all doubles and 2 runs.  he pitching only gave up 3 runs, but the Bisons still got the L as the offense did absolutely nothing getting just one runner into scoring position and 8 base runners on all game.

AA – Binghamton Mets

Nerves got the best of Mark Cohoon in the first inning of his first Double-A start.  He was downright awful in the inning throwing a wild pitch and giving up 4 straight hits with two outs to allow 3 runs to score.  He settled down after that and was almost flawless from the second to fifth innings facing just one batter over the minimum.  Things got heated again in the sixth when he loaded the bases on 3 straight singles.  It appeared he would get out of the inning when he struck out the next batter, but yet another 2-out hit allowed two runs to score before Roy Merritt came in to bail him out.  Luckily for Cohoon the offense was cooking tonight allowing him to pick up the victory.  The number nine hitter, Raul Reyes had the best night of his career getting 3 hits and 2 home runs after hitting just 3 home runs all year in St. Lucie.  Nick Evans couldn’t be stopped today with 4 extra base hits (3 doubles and a home run) and 2 RBI’s.

HiA – St. Lucie Mets

Shocker. After making 3 errors in last night’s ball game Wilmer Flores responded by committing yet another today.  Flores was playing a fairly decent shortstop in Savannah with positive reports from Mike Newman about better D so I’ll cut him some slack that he just needs time to adjust to his new team.  Brandon Moore did fairly well in his first HiA start, but nothing spectacular.  Carlos Beltran played 7 innings tonight, making 2 putouts and continuing to feast on the young pitching with 3 more hits and 2 RBI’s.

LoA – Savannah Sand Gnats

Collin McHugh was cruising along through 5 innings giving up a hit in 4 of the 5 innings, but never letting the base runner get further then second base.  He was doing pretty well in the sixth inning allowing a run to score on a sac fly and it appeared he was going to strand a runner at second base when he got the batter to pop up to first baseman Alex Gregory.  Gregory missed the catch allowing the runners to reach safely.  The next batter singled on a bloop to center field and then the blast came for a 3-run homer before McHugh struck out the last batter.  The offense did nothing tonight but that is understandable with two guys batting in the .100′s in the lineup.

SSA – Brooklyn Cyclones

A 7th inning play would come back to bite the Cyclones in the butt.  Only up by a run with a runner on first and two outs Cody Holliday hit a double into the gap, the third base coach sent Rylan Sandoval home, but on a perfectly executed relay throw Sandoval was thrown out to end the inning not giving the Cyclones best hitter, Darrell Ceciliani a chance to drive him in.  Then in the eighth Ryan Fraser came in with no outs and a runner on first to only walk the bases loaded.  He allowed one run to score on a sac fly with one out and then gave up a two out single to allow the winning run to score.  Two out RBI’s seem to be the theme tonight.

RK – Kingsport Mets

Jacob deGrom was a pitcher I was excited about so it is kind of upsetting to see him get shelled like this in his first start.  All but one hitter had a hit tonight, but none had more than 1 hit.

Jenrry Mejia was on a 50-pitch pitch count so when he hit 45 pitches through 2.1 innings he was pulled. Expect the Mets to be very cautious with stretching his arm out.

AAA – Buffalo Bisons

Dylan Owen had his first rough outing in AAA today giving up 4 runs on 6 hits.  His peripherals actually still look really good as he has struck out a batter per inning during his stint in AAA and only walked 4 batters so far.  Today he was victimized by the longball, which will probably be in the only thing holding him back from being able to start in the big leagues and force him into a relief role.

Not that the Mets have any brains in their organization, but Jesus Feliciano went 5 for 5 today with 2 doubles and is now hitting over .400 on the season.  But Gary Matthews Jr. had a walk today so that should be enough to keep him around for another month.  Daniel Murphy had a big day driving in four runs.

AA – Binghamton Mets

Josh Stinson had to pick up the spot start today and did pretty well giving up just 2 hits and 2 walks while pitching into the fifth inning.  Stinson has been a starter in the past, but has been used exclusively out of the bullpen over the last two years so it was nice to see he can still be a long reliever if needed.

Nick Evans teed off on Akron pitching today driving in the go ahead run in the 5th with a solo home run and adding on in the 7th inning with a two-run home run that would account for the winning runs.  Reese Havens joined in the power game belting his first home run of the year.  The 3-4-5 hitters combined to go 8-for-11 with 3 home runs, 4 RBI’s, and 4 runs on the day.

HiA – St. Lucie Mets

After hitting just 8 home runs all of last year 2nd baseman Josh Satin is already up to 5 on the season after a solo shot in the 4th.  Although he is old for the Florida State League he is demonstrating good power in such a hitters league.  When I saw him he had really good gap power, but also a lot of room to fill out and it looks like the added muscle is turning some of those doubles into homers.  Joey August saw his 9-game hit streak come to an end after an o-for-3 performance.

Wesley Wrenn was able to settle down after early trouble, but had to leave early after throwing so many pitches to get through the 2nd inning.  The Mets, however, received some great bullpen work and were able to put up zeroes and give the offense the chance to come back in the late innings.

LoA – Savannah Sand Gnats

The Gnats had no problem holding the lead from yesterday’s suspended game, but things didn’t go so smoothly in game #2.  Darin Gorski was roughed up for 5 runs and John Church had his first bad outing of the year raising his ERA all the way up to 1.76!  Wilmer Flores got on base twice to help get out of a mini slump as he is batting .150 over his last 10 games and drove in a run in the process on a first inning single to score Pedro ZapataJefry Marte and Cesar Puello also had good games as Marte went deep and Puello swiped two more bags.
