In his post game interview Jerry Manuel hinted that Jenrry Mejia could be sent down to the minor leagues in order to be stretched out as a starter.
“We’ll have to see obviously what direction we go, and then that will determine also how we feel the bullpen fits…We’ll do everything we can to keep it in a place where we feel very good about it, like we did coming out of spring training.”
So far this season Mejia is 0-2 with a 2.60 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 17.1 innings. He has appeared in just 18 of the Mets 37 games.
Mejia has shown an electric fastball that averages 94.4 mph with wicked movement. According to Fangraphs his fastball and curveball have been positive pitches for him, while his changeup has been slightly below average.
I have had no problem with what Mejia has done on the mound, but the simple fact of the matter is that he is not being given the chance to develop his pitches. He is throwing 81% fastballs and hasn’t had to use his off-speed pitches at all. At 20-years old he needs to be in the minors developing those pitches and not using one pitch to get outs in the bigs.
Ryota Igarashi could return soon from his injury within a week the Mets could wait until his return to send Mejia down and stretch him out. If the injury Jon Niese just sustained is serious at all there could be not better time than right now to make the move with Mejia.

Jon Niese continued to pitch like a beast with a complete game 7inning shutout. I am hoping to watch the video for this game maybe tomorrow to get a look on how Niese is looking to go along with the amazing stats he has been posting.
Game 2
Two complete game shutouts. Talk about a rarity.

This is why I voted for Brad Holt over Mejia in the side poll. The dude is just dominant. His K totals have been and outside of 3-4 starts in his short career he has been nearly unhittable. Lucas Duda now has 2 homeruns and 5 RBI’s in the last two games. Ike Davis hit his 11th homerun of the season and 4th since joining the B-Mets.

I am not going to start worrying about Scott Moviel he is still coming back from an injury and this is a decent start I won’t really worry too much until next season. That will be the key year for him as a prospect. KIrk Nieuwenhuis has really got to lower his average this .240 is not going to cut it for me.

I love Eric Beaulac‘s dominance, but he has to learn to pitch deeper into ballgames. I am not going to take anything away from his 1 hit, 7 strikeout performance, but the one thing he hasn’t done is pitch deep. The teen sensations both had multi hit games with Jefry Marte getting a double. A bit of a beanfest with 4 hit batters in the game (2 by Beaulac)

Nice job by 2009 draft pic Sam Honeck to go 3-5 with 3 RBI’s. He is one of the only hitters selected who has actually hit since joining the Metsies. John Servidio smacked the ball around hitting 2 bombs and even getting hit by a pitch. To go along with that he also drove in 3 runs.

Baseball Prospectus has reported that the New York Mets have signed left handed pitcher Juan Urbina to a igning bonus in the range of $1 million dollars.
It’s been confirmed to me that the Mets have signed Venezuelan LHP Juan Urbina, son of former big leaguer Ugueth Urbina. I have also confirmed that the bonus is for over $1 million. I’ll try to track down the specific amount. Sources also indicate this will be the only Mets signing today.
And boy Kiley McDaniel was right about everything. The Mets have signed him and the did not sign anybody else on the July 2nd signing date. They are still linked to a couple high priced shortstops like Jairo Kelly, but have not signed anybody else.
Urbina has a fastball that sits at 88-89 but reaches 91 to go along with an advanced curveball for his age. This helps bolster the Mets left handers inj the sytem, which is a pretty slim area with only Jon Niese, Robert Carson, Eric Niesen, and Darin Gorski as serious prospects in that area. I really like that Urbina has a solid fastball, good curve, and pitchability. Pitchability is my favorite tool he has as it i the hardest thing to teach someone and can take years to develop, but to have it at such a young age is just great.
Sorry for posting this so late like I said I moved to a paid host which took some time and then my computer broke. Not good.
