The pitching was poor today with bad performances from Chris Schwinden and Roy Merritt. Only because of the perfect extended outing from Edgar Ramirez was the game even close. Clint Everts, who was released by the Mets earlier this year, gave up a home run to Michael Fisher who has now gone deep for back to back days. After sitting out for two games Sean Ratliff was back in the line up today and hit a solo home run in the eighth inning to tie the game up before it was blown in the ninth. Another great game from Kirk Nieuwenhuis.

Kyle Allen might wanna take Rafael Fernandez out to dinner tonight. Allen pitched an extremely poor game tonight getting smacked around, but Fernandez got him the W by going yard twice and giving him a lead before leaving the game and handing the ball off to Ryota Igarashi who was fantastic.

Another okay performance from Josh Stinson. Nothing spectacular, but also nothing to sneeze at. Sean Ratliff continued to be a cog in the offense getting a ground rule double in the first to kick things off in a 3-run inning. He also added 2 walks and Kirk Nieuwenhuis continued his crazy hot start.

Juan Lagares appears to finally be settling into a groove in St. Lucie after early struggles. Jeurys Familia had a Oliver Perez-esque bad start with 7 walks in just 3.2 innings. He only gave up 2 hits, but when you walk 7 guys bad things will happen and that’s why he gave up 4 runs.

Jenrry Mejia left the game in the 2nd inning with right shoulder stiffness after facing just two batters in the 2nd inning and throwing 44 pitches. This could turn out to be a blessing in disguise if it turns to the Mariners off from asking for Mejia in any trade talks and letting them settle for Fernando Martinez+. What has been impressive about Sean Ratliff since being promoted is that he has hit 3 of his 4 home runs off lefties including the one today. He still needs to improve on his plate discipline though. Chris Schwinden deserves a pat on the back for coming in earlier then expected and not only keeping his team in the game, but also picking up the win.
HiA – St. Lucie Mets
It only took until his last start in June, but Jeurys Familia finally got his first win of the season! Take a quick look at how bad Richard Lucas’ season has been after being a ‘sleeper’ before the season .208/.286/.346 with a 19:78 K:BB ratio!! That is some of the worst plate discipline of anyone in the whole minor league system not to mention he has just 14 extra base hits all season. Wilmer Flores has been trying to break out of his slump lately with 2 hits yesterday and 4 more today and hey he made no errors today! The offense on a whole was just locked in today.
LoA – Savannah Sand Gnats
Game suspended in 3rd inning
SSA – Brooklyn Cyclones
I like the power and patience Cory Vaughn is showing at the plate. If he can start getting some more hits he will have a really solid first season. Think about it this way he already has 2 more home runs in Brooklyn than Ike Davis ever hit. Darrell Ceciliani continues to put up great numbers and showing good pop for a younger guy in the league.

Nothing to speak of here everyone sucked.

Boy do Josh Satin and Sean Ratliff like hitting in Bingy. Since getting out of the unfriendly confines in Florida the two have been on an absolute tear. Ratliff’s hot streak reminds me of Kirk Nieuwenhuis‘s last season, who is oddly the person he is replacing while Kirk is hurt. This game was actually close for the longest time, although you wouldn’t be able to tell by looking at the score, which is why Josh Stinson didn’t get a win despite pitching another great ball game.
HiA – St. Lucie Mets

Brad Holt‘s season is just really really depressing.
SSA – Brooklyn Cyclones

Just about every single night Darrell Ceciliani shows that he is the best player on the field.
RK – Kingsport Mets

Do you think Aderlin Rodriguez knows how to make a good first impression or what? Just a great game from the youngster who the Mets have been more careful with than most big money Latin signees.

AAA – Dillon Gee (6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, ER, 7 K)

Dillon Gee pitched a great game, but unfortunately for him his bullpen was not up to task tonight. Roy Merritt got his first real taste of AAA giving up 6 runs on 4 hits (all doubles!) and a walk in just .1 innings.
AA – Binghamton Mets

I can guarantee you this. If Clint Evertswas not a former 1st round pick he would not be on this roster right now. He has nothing going for him other than he pedigree. Even though Josh Satin and Luis Hernandez might be the heroes of this game it was the Eric Campbell show. He continued his season long hot streak by going 4-for-5 with 2 home runs, 3 runs scored, and 4 RBI’s. He is having a great season and is making himself a ‘prospect’.
HiA – St. Lucie Mets

Kyle Allen was pitching a great game through 4 innings, actually holding a no-hitter, and then things began to fall apart in the 5th. He gave up 2 runs in the inning on 4 hits, but things would have been much worse had Jean Luc Blaquiere not picked the leadoff runner off 1st base. Things got worse for Allen in the 7th when after already giving up 2 runs he left with runners on 1st and 3rd for Stephen Clyne who game up a double and an inherited runner before getting out of the inning. Jordany Valdespin continues to serve as the linchpin of the offense with 2 more RBI’s today.
LoA – Savannah Sand Gnats

Brandon Moore carried a no-hitter all the way into the 8th inning when he gave up a lead off single and then things began to crumble as the inning would end in a 4-4 tie thanks to Erik Turgeon coming in and allowing the runner on 3rd base to score on a wild pitch.
SSA – Brooklyn Cyclones

Yesterday it was clear the Darrell Ceciliani was the best player on the field and he showed that again tonight, but what I want to know is how the huge Jeff Flagg stole a base.

I am really excited to see the outfield headlined by Darrell Ceciliani and Cory Vaughn and then J.B. Brown on the infield, but none of the other position players really pop out at me.
I also want to see if Angel Cuan has made any adjustments since last year and then the 2010 draft picks especially Chad Sheppard, Jonathan Kountis, and Ryan Fraser.
