Stars of the Night:
AAA – Fernando Martinez (2-for-3, 2B, BB, K)
AA – Brahiam Maldonado (2-for-3, HR, 4 RBI, R, SB)
HiA – Jordany Valdespin (2-for-4, 2 RBI, SB, BB, E)
LoA – Armando Rodriguez (4.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, BB, 2 K)
SSA – Rylan Sandoval (2-for-4, 2B , HR, 2 R, 3 RBI)
RK – Nelfi Zapata (1-for-3, 2 RBI, BB)
GCL – OFF

AAA – Buffalo Bisons

Dillon Gee had good control tonight, but absolutely no command of his pitches. He didn’t walk anybody yet still gave up 7 runs in just 3 innings on 9 hits. He wasn’t getting hit hard, but the other team was just peppering hits all over the field.

AA – Binghamton Mets

Eric Niesen had arguably his best start of the season today. Now outside of 1 bad start in June he has gone 18.1 innings over 3 starts pitching to an 0.49 ERA. Over that time he has given up 11 hits and 6 walks while striking out 14. A pretty impressive month for Niesen after missing most of May with a concussion. All the BMets offense came in the 7th innings. After the first four batters reached base a pitching changed was made to face Brahiam Maldonado. It turned out to be a bad move as Maldonado hit a grand small to put the game out of reach.

HiA – St. Lucie Mets

Errors opened the doors in the early part of this game. In the first inning with a man on first the Mets made 2 errors on one play allowing the batter to reach first base and the other man to advance to third base safely. Kyle Allen appeared to get flustered throwing a wild pitch to the very next batter and then again two batters later. The inning ended with 2 runs scoring. Allen got in trouble again in the next inning thanks to a Richard Lucas error to lead off the inning. Again it seemed to get to Allen who hit the next batter before giving up a 3-run homer. He settled in after that even striking out the side in his final inning of work. The rehabbing Carlos Beltran went 0-for-2 with a walk.

LoA – Savannah Sand Gnats

The new Sand Gnats roster didn’t fair well against top pitching prospect Tyler Matzek. Matzek no-hit the Gnats, but had to be taking out early as he ran into a high pitch count with control problems and after walking the bases loaded in the 6th. Armando Rodriguez was pitching a great game, but in the 5th with runners on first and second and no outs the batter tried to lay down a suicide bunt, however, Doc Doyle made a bad throw to first that allowed all the runners to advance and the Tourists to take the lead.

SSA – Brooklyn Cyclones

Rylan Sandoval, who actually looks smaller than his listed 5’10, had himself a nice day collecting 2 extra base hits and 3 RBI’s. The offense was connecting on all cylinders tonight as every starter except Kurt Steinhauer reached base at least 2 times.

RK – Kingsport Mets

Stars of the Night:
AAA – Lucas Duda (1-for-3, 2B, BB)
AA – Luis Hernandez (3-for-4, R, CS)
HiA – OFF
LoA – Armando Rodriguez (6.1 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 6 K, 3 BB)

AAA – New York Mets

I feel bad for Pat Misch. He is very capable of being a #5 in the major leagues last year, but thanks to the strong performances by R.A. Dickey and Hisnaori Takahashi he has been stuck in Buffalo all year. He goes deep into games averaging 6.1 IP per start this year, keeps the ball down, and doesn’t walk anybody. But instead he takes tough luck losses in AAA thanks to the Bisons’s abysmal offense now that Mike Hessman is hurt. The only Bisons with hits were also the only prospects on the team as Lucas Duda, Fernando Martinez, and Josh Thole all picked up 1 hit.

AA – Binghamton Mets

An somewhat encouraging outing from Eric Niesen after possibly his worst outing last time out. He still walked 4 batters, but because his stuff is so good he only gave up 4 hits. Somehow he has managed to “only” have a 1.54 WHIP which is terrible but considering he walked 28 men in just 33.2 innings is a testament to how difficult it is for hitters to square up his stuff when it is in the zone. Oliver Perez redux anyone? Sean Ratliff and Josh Satin both contributed again in the second game in Double-A with Ratliff driving in the only run of the game with an RBI double in the very first inning to score Luis Hernandez and Satin picking up another 2 hits.

LoA – Savannah Sand Gnats

Armando Rodriguez continued the dominance of Mark Cohoon until he allowed Chris Dominguez to score on a wild pitch in the 4th inning. After getting out of the fourth inning jam Rodriguez struck out 4 of the next 5 batters. In the 7th inning the Gnats got into a bit of a jam with a runner on 3rd and one out, but Erik Turgeon came on to relieve Rodriguez and struck out the next 2 batters to get out of the inning.
