Scott Moviel had a surprisingly good game. He has been erratic all year, but today he was able to walk no one and strike out 5 piggy backing Eric Beaulac who struggled with his command and had got hurt by a Richard Lucas error. Juan Lagares is becoming more comfortable at the plate after struggling early on and Wilmer Flores continues to collect his hits with regularity.

Darin Gorski had a really good game today and is a prospect I like a lot. I wish the Mets would have used him as a starter all year, but he was actually much better in relief lights out to be exact so that could be his ticket to the big leagues. Yet again the offense did next to nothing o the Gnats picked up another loss.

Make that back-to-back nights both Rylan Sandoval and Cory Vaughn have hit home runs. The two of them are having their own little home run derby down there. Sandoval is just a product of age to level but Vaughn seems to be legit and much more polished than previously thought off. Nick Carr is rehabbing and more wild than ever. He looked like he may have turned a corner last year with his control before getting hurt, but is now back to his old ways walking a batter per inning. Ryan Fraser got 3 of his outs via strikeout and 3 via the ground ball. Couldn’t ask for anything else he has been outstanding.

Outside of his first start Jacob deGrom has been terrific. For someone so knew to pitching he has great control of his pitches walking just 2 in 17 innings. He has also has a great ability of getting ground balls which is harder with metal bats and would explain his poor numbers. He is one to watch closely going forward. The Rodriguez Bros. have just been filthy this year.

Don’t worry Mets fans Oliver Perez struggled mightly with his command today and until he works that problem out do not expect him on the big league club which probably won’t happen. Recently signed Brian Bruney also struggled blowing the lead for the Bisons. Lucas Duda struck out 3 times but also had a 2-out RBI.

Mark Cohoon was cruising along through 3 innings and then everything fell apart in the fourth. The inning was going fine getting two outs with a man on second. The run was double in and things seemed fine. Then a walk, double, single, and 4 runs later Cohoon was pulled for Roy Merritt and here things get ugly. Merritt walked 4 consecutive batters to allow 2 more runs to score before Emary Frederick had to bail him out. The offense gave the pitching runs which is what hurts the most. The put up early runs with all the long balls they hit and the pitchers still couldn’t throw strikes. Kirk Nieuwenhuis = beast. Michael Fisher answered my call for power with a home run.

Brad Holt was having a a good outing up until the sixth inning when the wheels came off. He threw 2 wild pitches in the inning, walked one, gave up 4 hits, and 4 runs. I am still thinking this is because of an injury or at least I hope. Richard Lucas continued his all-or-nothing season with 2 home runs and a strike out in 4 at-bats. Wilmer Flores‘ hit streak game to an end at 5.

Angel Cuan did a good job commanding the zone today and keeping the runs to a minimum. Ryan Fraser has been amazing this year and showed much better command than expecting. Today was Jeff Flagg‘s day to rape with the bat.

It is rare to see a guy with so many strikeouts give up 4 runs, but just like he has all season long Dillon Gee struggled with the long ball giving up 2 more home runs. He has a very high HR/FB percentage, much higher than his career average, and you can take that two ways. One he is getting a little unlucky and when it returns to normal his runs will start going down or the second way that in the upper levels his average stuff is getting hit harder by tougher competition. Only time will tell, but I expect his ERA to go down a little and settle in the low 4′s. Incase you forgot Lucas Duda is a beast.

Michael Antonini started the season off rough, but ever since mid May he has been outstanding. Out of his last 10 starts 9 of them are quality starts, he is striking out a batter per innings, and keeping the walks way way down while holding the opponents to a 3.26 ERA. He is restoring his prospect status this year. Michael Fisher is quietly continuing to hit with 3 more hits tonight in Bingy raising his season average to .360. He hasn’t showed any since leaving Savannah so that is something he will need to start demonstrating.

Robert Carson continued to be ‘Steady Eddie’ for the St. Lucie rotation while everyone else has been inconsistent at best. Angel Calero got into a lot of trouble in relief, but was bailed out by Erik Turgeon to preserve the lead. I still don’t think enough can be said about Wilmer Flores he has just been jaw dropping.

Another okay performance from Josh Stinson. Nothing spectacular, but also nothing to sneeze at. Sean Ratliff continued to be a cog in the offense getting a ground rule double in the first to kick things off in a 3-run inning. He also added 2 walks and Kirk Nieuwenhuis continued his crazy hot start.

Juan Lagares appears to finally be settling into a groove in St. Lucie after early struggles. Jeurys Familia had a Oliver Perez-esque bad start with 7 walks in just 3.2 innings. He only gave up 2 hits, but when you walk 7 guys bad things will happen and that’s why he gave up 4 runs.

Does Kirk Nieuwenhuis stop? Dude has 3 or more hits in 3 of his last 4 games and has gotten his average over the .300 mark. His splits are great, the power is great, the speed is great, the defense is great so if plate discipline ever comes around man can be a serious force and during his recent hot streak the K:BB has been much better. The same thing goes for Sean Ratliff. He has been much better against the lefties this year and staying in longer on the pitches hitting them for hard line drives more often. He already has 21 RBI’s in 23 games for Bingy after being an FSL All-Star so his stock is definitely way up this year.

Darin Gorski was decent, but not dominant tonight. I’ll be interested in Mike Newman’s report on him to see if his stuff is still the same as last year or if he has made any improvements. The only way this offense works when Jefry Marte and Cesar Puello are going like they were tonight. Otherwise they will score no runs every game.

Don’t know why the Mets are trying to use Jeff Walters as a starter he doesn’t have the command at all for a starting role and should be put in the bullpens where his stuff plays the best. Eddie Lora is looking like a major bust. Just one hit five games. That hit was a home run, but still disappointing and he has a ridiculous 10 strikeouts in 16 games. Great return on Billy Wagner….

Fernando Martinez’s pinch hit home run gives him a home run in two consecutive games and 3 in his last 4 games to go along with 6 RBI’s. After a gigantic 2 games homerless streak Lucas Duda cracked a 3-run in the 7th to help spark the comeback. Look at his stats from the last 8 days. The power/patience is just ridiculous.
