A very mixed start from Kyle Allen.  He did some things well keeping the ball on the ground with 7 ground ball outs and not allowing too many baserunners by giving up 3 hits and walking 2.  On the other hand he only lasted 4.2 innings and struckout just 2 batters.  He has still had some pretty good results so far so they jury is still out on him for a little while longer.  The bullpen almost cost them the game twice, but the offense had no trouble bailing them out in the late innings.

Jefry Marte continued his somewhat torrid start to the season by hitting his for shot of the year in the 4th inning to tie the game up for the first time.  The offense went stagnant until the 9th when the hero of the game, Juan Centeno(pictured), would lead the inning off with a walk.  The Stone Crabs closer quickly got the next two outs, but then walked Stefan Welch and Juan Lagares to lead the bases.  Rafael Fernandez came up with the must clutch hit of the season hitting a 2 RBI single to tie the game up.  Than when Rhiner Cruz coughed up a run in the top of the 10th Centeno came back up to the plate with one on and hit a stunning 2-run walkoff homerun.

Stars of the Game: 1. Juan Centeno (3pts)  2. Jefry Marte (4pts)  3. Cesar Puello (5pts)

Scott Moviel earned his first win despite struggling with his command all game.  Moviel had a bit of a mental lapse during the game in the 4th inning and let his emotions after being called on a balk.  Moviel got very heated arguing with the umpire on the verge of an ejection.  Before he could calm down he threw a wild pitch to the next batter moving the runners into scoring position, allowing one to score on a ground ball out.  The bullpen was fantastic led by Nick Carr(pictured) who has looked really good having yet to walk a batter, but this deep into his career he needs to show this success against more talented batters.

It is becoming a daily routine for Jefry Marte to look like the best prospect out of him Cesar Puello and Wilmer Flores.  Flores did catch a tough break in the game when they scored an error on his hit that was a very tough play causing him to miss out on a hit and RBI, but Marte’s new approach at the plate is looking pretty impressive.  Puello, Travis Ozga, and Rafael Fernandez all had 2 hits apiece.

Stars of the Game: 1. Cesar Puello (4pts) 2. Travis Ozga (3pts) 3. Nick Carr (1pt)

Back-t0-back fantastic starts for Jeurys Familia, but he has yet to win a game.  In the two games he has pitched now he has now gone 13 innings striking out 13 batters while giving up just 2 hits and 2 walks.  Simply no one has been able to get on base off him.  This is the type of performance you want to see from a player repeating a level.  After performing well down the stretch last year if he is to keep this type of performance up through May he could be in line to get a bump up along with Matt HarveyJeff Kaplan continues to be perfect and is now 4-for-4 in save chances.

Wilmer Flores began his attempt to get things going with two RBI singles.  Francisco Pena continued his hot hitting.  The only players to go hitless were Cesar Puello and Rylan Sandoval.

Stars of the Game: 1. Jeurys Familia (6pts) 2. Wilmer Flores (6pts)  3. Pedro Zapata (4pts)

Everyone jump aboard because the Matt Harvey bandwagon has left the station.  If he keeps performing. this well who knows how long he will remain in St. Lucie.  In 11 innings he has yet to give up a run on 8 hits while striking out everyone and walking none (4:17, K:BB).  His fastball alone has been too much for the less experienced players of the league and he is using his curve ball to put hitters away with no problem.  His combination of control, strikeouts, and ability to get groundballs are going to open up a lot more eyes.  Michael Powers was brought in to save the game, but after getting the first out of the inning gave up 3 straight hits and needed to be bailed out by Nick Carr who got a huge strikeout swinging against the first batter he faced.

Cesar Puello(pictured) and Juan Lagares had much needed games to get themselves out of huge ruts.  Each put up two hits including their first extra base hits of the young season with Lagares’s homerun proving to be critical after Powers gave up a run in the 9th.  Francisco Pena and Jefry Marte are continuing to put up solid performances and it is Wilmer Flores that looks overmatched at the plate failing to get anything started.  He’s been taking the walk, but he is going to have to start swinging the bat at some point.

Stars of the Game: 1.  Matt Harvey (6pts)  2.  Juan Lagares (2pts)  3. Cesar Puello (1pt)

The Mets absolutely abused top prospect Alex Wimmers.  Wimmers’s control was so bad it was on a Brad Holt or Oliver Perez level.  He walked the first SIX batters to face him and threw THREE wild pitches in the process.  Those kind of numbers have to be historically bad.  It is almost a little sad the Mets only scored four runs in the 1st after drawing 7 total walks in the inning.  The offense would rally again in the 5th inning for another four run inning in part again because of terrible command by Miracle pitchers (1 walk, 1 wild pitch, and 1 passed ball in the inning) and bad defense as a throwing error by the pitcher allowing Matt Den Dekker to reach really opened up the inning.  Den Dekker managed to score 3 runs on only 1 hit.  It is a pleasure to see Jefry Marte(pictured) finally hitting and demonstrating some power in the process.

The pitching wasn’t spectacular, but was able to hold onto the early lead they were given.  No real performances to write home about by keep an eye on Eric Beaulac who could move pretty quickly if the Mets finally decide to keep him in the bullpen, a position he has asked for in the past, and not move him all around.

Stars of the Game:  1.  Stefan Welch (3pts)  2. Jefry Marte (2pts)  3. Matt Den Dekker (1pt)

Things did not go as smoothly for the Mets pitching as the final score will dictate. Starter Kyle Allen struggled all game with his command and pitch count having to leave after just 3.2 innings despite giving up just 2 hits.  His only run was a result of a Wilmer Flores throwing error that allowed the bases to become loaded before the next batter hit a sac fly.  Darin Gorski pitched very well in long relief of Allen, but had a runner reach second in both of the complete innings he pitched.  Jeffery Kaplan had to pitch with the bases loaded and one out in the 9th because of some walks and an error by Jefry Marte, needing to be bailed out by Pedro Zapata.  Kaplan got the batter to hit a shallow fly ball to left field when Zapata threw out the potential tying run trying to score from third base.

In what seems to be a common theme the offense struggled to get anything going.  Despite getting runners into scoring position in the 1st and 2nd innings they not plate a run until the 8th inning.  Dusty Ryan(pictured), who on a side note I would take on the big league club over Mike Nickeas, came up with the bases loaded and two outs hitting a 2 RBI single.

Cesar Puello is really struggling early on with just 2 hits in 18 at-bats.  He started slow last year and came on really strong towards the end so he could just be a slow starter.

Stars of the Game: 1. Pedro Zapata (3pts)  2. Matt Den Dekker (2pts)  3. Travis Ozga (1pt)

Another positive performance from a pitcher who disappointed in 2010.  Six-foot-eleven, Scott Moviel(pictured), struck out 5 in 5 innings and giving up 1 run.  He limited the Cardinals to 6 base runners on 2 walk and 4 hits.  Like Holt he did not receive the win, but definitely still a good all around effort. Former Mets famrhand Maikel Cleto pitched a great game against his former organization going 6 innings with 7 k’s  allowing just a run.

They weren’t hitting all that much, but the young St. Lucie offense showed good ability to take a pitch by drawing four walks throughout the game.  Wilmer Flores showed some life getting on base twice and driving in a run with a two out walk in the 7th to put the Mets no top.  Cesar Puello, Matthew Den Dekker, Jefry Marte, and Rafael Fernandez all went hitless and Francisco Pena had the only multi hit game.

Stars of the Game: 1. Wilmer Flores(3 pts) 2. Scott Moviel(2pts) 3. Francisco Pena(1pt)
