There Are Some Prospects to Watch in Kingsport

With the Kingsport Mets season starting tonight I took a quick look at their roster and boy am I impressed.

The pitching in stacked. The rotation has guys like Juan Urbina, Akeel Morris, and Domingo Tapia in it that all of super high upside. Then there is Michael Hebert, who I never understood why the Mets have taken it so slow with, as well as 2010 draft picks Brett Mitchell and Jonathan Kountis.

Then there are a bunch of 2011 draft picks who are going to get their first taste to show us what they are worth.

Jeff Glenn and Camden Maron are a pretty good catching duo. I am excited to see Chad Zurcher and Alex Sanchez in the infield.

Greg Pron, Julio Concepcion, Tillman Pugh, and underachieving Miguel Tejada are all guys to watch closely in the outfield.

This team is looking like it will be one of my most fun to follow for the remainder of the season.

2011 Season Predictions: R.A. Dickey, SP

R.A. Dickey | Starting Pitcher

Season Predictions
W-L: 13-8
ERA: 3.84
GS: 32
IP: 202
SO: 120
BB: 62

2010 Numbers: 11-9 | 2.84 ERA | 27 GS | 174.1 IP | 104 SO | 42 BB

162 Game Averages: 9-10 | 4.70 ERA | 21 GS | 171 IP | 104 SO | 61 BB

What Dickey was able to do last year was magical coming out of practically no where to post a sub-3 ERA. His FIP was much higher than his ERA at 3.65, but shows the season was not completely a fluke and that Dickey pitched extremely well.  I will not try to pretend I know how he was before he came to the Mets, however, he seems to have matured as a pitcher last year.  Throwing two types of knuckle balls Dickey makes it difficult for hitters to sit on one speed and happens to generate a lot of ground balls with the harder of the two knuckle balls.  As nice of a guy Dickey seems from his interviews and as much as he makes me want to see him succeed I don’t see him repeating the success he had last year.  A solid season should still be in store from what hopes to become the Mets’ version of Tim Wakefield.
