Down in the DSL there has been a young lefty who has put up some pretty big numbers over the last two years and is warranting a need to watch him a lot little more closely than your average DSL player.
The young 19-year-old Yancarlos Javier has dominated the DSL league over the last two years. Last year in his first go around the 6’3″ 170 lbs international signee in 2008 went 4-0 with a 3.38 ERA in 12 games (6 starts). His peripherals were even better giving up just 29 hits and striking out 40 batters in 37.1 innings. So far in 2010 Javier has done a good job repeating his performance going 1-0 while giving up no runs on just 8 hits and 7 walks in 16 innings. He has also struck out 15. He has been death on lefties giving up no hits in 7 at-bats and striking out 3 (or 43%).
All these stats are in a small sample size and he does have a bit of a control issue, but that should be expected with his age and he is still very very projectable so while we may not know a lot about his stuff he only has room to grow. His most amazing stat to is his 1.72 GO/AO last year and his 2.30 GO/AO this year. That is an amazing amount of ground balls to get and bodes well for future performance.
