Mets Affiliate Forced Out of Binghamton, Move to New Britain?
Posted by: | CommentsAdam Rubin of ESPN NY is reporting the Binghamton, the Mets Double-A affiliate, is being purchased by a new owner and being moved to Ottawa in 2013. It is expected they will not re-partner with the Mets and instead they will likely become the affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, makes total sense.

As a result Rubin is hearing that the Minnesota Twins could move to New Hampshire, where the Blue Jays currently play, and then the Mets would take over the affiliate in New Britain, Connecticut where the Twins play.
The Mets had been affiliated with Binghamton since 1992, but minor league affiliates change all the time and this is not really a big deal and I d no’t think it could work out any better if what Rubin is hearing happens.
For me at least, Binghamton is a VERY far way to go to watch baseball games and if they make the move to Connecticut I will be able to go watch many more games live. I am keeping my fingers crossed right now that nothing crazy happens and these moves take place.
This is like Christmas in February.
Harvey About to be Promoted to Double-A
Posted by: | Comments
According to this artile at MiLB.com, Matt Harvey is on the verge of his long awaited promotion to Double-A:
Harvey scratched: St. Lucie Mets right-hander Matt Harvey had been penciled in by South Division manager Jim Morrison to get the All-Star start. Instead, it was Mets left-hander Darin Gorski who got the call.
Harvey, 8-2 with a 2.44 ERA, wasn’t available because he is scheduled to be promoted to Double-A Binghamton after making one more start for St. Lucie. He has won four straight decisions, recording 36 strikeouts against only five walks over 23 innings.
The Mets selected the former North Carolina pitcher with the seventh overall pick in the 2010 Draft and he made his Minor League debut with St. Lucie this season. He did not allow an earned run until his fifth start and has 88 strikeouts to 22 walks in 70 innings over 13 starts.
His final start for St. Lucie will all but certainly come tonight against Charlotte as the Mets will look to clinch their first half title and who better to start the most important game of the year than your top prospect.
It would not be shocking to see Matt Den Dekker follow him up to Double-A when the first half season ends as well. Den Dekker is hitting .301/.365/.506 with 19 doubles, 8 triples, 6 home runs, 52 runs, 36 RBIs, has been 12-for-17 in stolen base attempts, and has shown the best defense of any prospect in the system.
Deadspin Making Fun of B-Mets
Posted by: | Comments…This video is a little old, but I just came across it.
Ouch. I wanna say I feel bad for Wally Backman having to put up with things like that along with the B-Mets’ terrible record. The record isn’t entirely his fault because the Mets haven’t given him the most talented group to work with, but a minor league manager should be teaching the players the basics to avoid disastrous plays like this. Sometimes these things happen, but something tells me this wasn’t the first time this year the B-Mets made a baserunning blunder this bad…
Familia Up to AA, Chris Young has Swelling

(Scott Jontes/MiLB.com)
Today the Mets have announced 21-year-old right-handed pitching prospect Jeurys Familia has been promoted from Hi-A St. Lucie to Double-A Binghamton.
This year Familia has posted a line of:
(1-1, 1.49) – 36.1 IP, 21 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 1 HB, 8 BB, 36 K, 0.80 WHIP
Last year Familia spent all of last year in St. Lucie and struggled with his command going 6-9 with 5.58 ERA. Despite the overall bad numbers it was a tale of two seasons for Familia who has been lights out ever since last July. He took a bit off his fastball to get better command and the results have been huge. He dropped his BB/9 from 5.50 to 1.98 which is not just good, but well above-average, especially for a pitcher his age. He hasn’t even suffered in the strikeouts still K’ing a batter per inning.
Scouts have said he doesn’t even look like the same pitcher and that is in a good way.

Earlier today the Mets had to place Chris Young on the DL with tightness in his right shoulder. He had an MRI and it showed some swelling in theback of that shoulder which would explain the tightness. That is the same shoulder he injured in 2009 and this is already his 2nd stint on the DL this year. Sandy Alderson has already said Young won’t be back when the 15 days are up.
This is exactly why Young was considered a high risk/high reward player. When he has pitched he has been phenomenal and the best pitcher on the staff, but that has only been for a very limited number of games and who knows how long this one will keep him out for.
The Mets had to promote Pat Misch to fill the roster spot.
Well Dillon Gee here is your chance, don’t blow it.
Sean Ratliff to Miss Entire Season
Posted by: | Comments
This news is a few days old, but I missed it.
Mets’ outfield prospect Sean Ratliff, who was hit in the eye with a pitch while standing in the batter’s box back in late March, will need to miss the entire season because of the eye surgeries.
After being struck by the ball Ratliff suffered six broken bones in his face and a fully torn retina.
The doctors decided to let the facial fractures heal on their own, but have already performed two surgeries to try and fix the vision in his eye. According to Ratliff his vision currently sits at 20-60, but that is an improvement from where it had been.
While things are looking good for Ratliff he is still not out of the woods. There is the chance that his vision is never fully restored and he will need to retire. This type of injury is especially disheartening for Ratliff who was coming off a breakout season in 2010.
Hopefully he has a safe and full recovery.
I had ranked Ratliff as the Mets’ 15th best prospect in pre-season.
Holt, Marte Make BA’s Hot Sheet
Posted by: | Comments| No. 8 | BRAD HOLT, RHP | METS |
Team: Double-A Binghamton (Eastern)Age: 24 Why He’s Here: 0-0, 1.29, 2 GS, 13 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 11 SO, 3 BB, 19/4 G/F The Scoop: In his third try at Double-A, Holt isn’t out of the woods yet. But he’s off and running after allowing two runs through three starts. He flashed good stuff last year, but a combination of injuries, mechanical issues and lack of focus produced dreadful results (3-14, 8.34, 2.00 WHIP, 7.5 walks per nine innings). Through the early going this season, Holt is throwing his pitches for strikes, getting swings and misses, inducing grounders and generally living up to his No. 3 starter potential. |

| No. 13 | JEFRY MARTE, 3B | METS |
Team: high Class A St. Lucie (Florida State)Age: 19 Why He’s Here: .409/.481/.864 (9-for-22), 3 HR, 1 2B, 8 RBIs, 7 R, 4 BB, 6 SO The Scoop: St. Lucie has jumped off to a Florida State League-best 13-2 record and they’ve done so with some of the Mets’ finest prospects. Righthanders Matt Harvey and Jeurys Familia have given up a total of three runs in six starts, while the offense features shortstop Wilmer Flores and right fielder Cesar Puello, the system’s Nos. 2 an 3 prospects who both appear to be shaking off the rust early in the season. The same is not true of Marte, who paces the St. Lucie attack with a .340 average (17-for-50), eight walks, three home runs and 10 RBIs. Marte spent last season playing in the shadow of Flores and Puello with low Class A Savannah, but he appears to be completely healthy this season as he makes up for a so-so 2010 campaign (.264/.333/.401, six homers in 82 games). |

Surprised Brad Holt got the nod over Matt Harvey or Jeurys Familia. Holt’s turn around has been just huge for this farm system and making it look a lot better than it was before the year. Happy for Mark Cohoon who also finally got some love from a big time scouting service.
When your fastball tops out at 90 mph, you need to have plenty of savvy, not to mention some quality secondary offerings, to make it work. That’s the case for Mets LHP Mark Cohoon, who’s allowed just one earned run in 19 innings this season for Double-A Binghamton. In his only start this week, the 23-year-old threw seven innings without allowing an earned run (he did give up two unearned) to lower his ERA to 0.47. He struck out 11, a career high, didn’t walk anybody and gave up just five hits . . .

Final: Binghamton 6 – Portland 5
Posted by: | CommentsMark that as back-t0-back games in which Josh Satin hit a bomb, in the version of the three run fashion tonight. Satin has seen a spike in his strikeouts this year, but I still like him for the future. Should go on to become a good bench player. The key hit of the night was a two out RBI double off the bat of Brahiam Maldonado to drive in Satin to put the BMets up by two, which would become the winning run.
Brandon Moore was pretty good tonight despite the four runs given up. He was dealing through 4.1 innings facing just one over the minimum. He then proceeded to give up five consecutive singles and never made it out of the 5th inning. To Moore’s defense he only gave up two of the runs himself as Ricky Brooks allowed two of his inherited runners to score. John Lujan got the first two outs in the 9th inning with no problem, but then allowed two singles and a double before stranding the tying run on third base and winning run on second to secure the save.
Stars of the Game: 1. Josh Satin (11pts) 2. Brahiam Maldonado (7pts) 3. Jesus Feliciano (2pts)
Team: Double-A Binghamton (Eastern)
Team: high Class A St. Lucie (Florida State)
