MMP Awards for May

Hitter of the Month: Jose Reyes
.364/.421/.555 | 9 2B | 6 3B | 18 R | 10 RBI | 11/13 SB | 11:8 BB:K
One of two things is sure with how well Reyes is playing right now. (1) The Mets are going to get a very good package of prospects for him, or at least one much better than the Homer Bailey/Zack Cozart package Buster Olney felt they would get before the seasons, or (2) The amount of money the Mets will have to give Jose is going through the roof. Hopefully it is the later of the two.
Pitcher of the Month: Dillon Gee
3-0 | 3.48 ERA | 33.2 IP | 25 H | 13 R | 13 ER | 13 bb | 27 so
Gee has been a Godsend for this Mets team much like R.A. Dickey was last year. His performances were just terrific this month. He showed he has what it takes to be a major league pitcher in the game against the Cubs when he got rocked early on, but made the necessary adjustments and settled everything down to pick up the seven inning “complete game” victory.
Triple-A
Hitter of the Month: Kirk Nieuwenhuis
.302/.394/.488 | 6 2B | 2 3B | 2 HR | 14 R | 8 RBI | 3/4 SB | 13:29 BB:K
Captain Kirk missed the last week of the month after making one of the best catches you’ll see in the minors this year and was still was by far the best hitter on the Bisons. He could actually have some competition for the month of June with Lucas Duda and Fernando Martinez.
Mark Cohoon Goes to AA, Huge Roster Changes for Gnats
Posted by: | CommentsMark Cohoon, who has dominated the SAL and whom I talked about before, has been promoted. Instead of going to HiA St. Lucie the Mets decided to promote him straight to Double-A Binghamton. I think this is a good call by the Mets. He is an older, smarter pitcher who probably would have dominated the Florida State League just as he dominated the South Atlantic League so why not give him the biggest challenge for a minor leaguer which is the move to AA.
There was a plethora of other moves made to go along with this including top prospect Wilmer Flores getting the bump from LoA Savannah to HiA St. Lucie. There were 6 other Sand Gnats who became St. Lucie Mets today; Juan Lagares, Brandon Moore, Rafael Fernandez, Kai Gronauer, Erik Turgeron, and Michael Fisher.
To make room for all these players a lot of players had to be shifted around:
- Wilfredo Tovar was transferred from the St. Lucie roster to the Savannah roster.
- Brandon Sage was activated and placed in Savannah roster.
- Juan Torres was transferred from the St. Lucie roster to the Savannah roster.
- R.J. Harris was transferred from the Brooklyn roster to the Savannah roster.
- Ryan Mollica was transferred from the St. Lucie roster to the Savannah roster.
- Gabriel Zavalawas added to the Savannah roster.
- Travis Ozga was transferred from the Kingsport roster to the Savannah roster.
- Marcos Tabata was transferred from the St. Lucie roster to the Savannah roster.
More Mets Injuries
Posted by: | CommentsBecause enough Mets aren’t already hurt there is new today that J.J. Putz will need to go on the DL because he needs surgery on his pitching elbow. If everything goes correctly and he hells PERFECTLY he can possibly return in 6-8 weeks. The odds are he will likely be out longer and the odds are when he returns he will not be as effective as he was in the past. It’s your time to step up Bobby Parnell.

The Savannah Sand Gnats are also being flooded with injuries as prospect Juan Lagares who was having a pretty solid season (.290/.324/.355) is out for the season with an injury to his right wrist. Starting German catcher Kai Gronauer has also been placed on the DL as has 1st baseman Eric Campbell. To fill the roster spots catcher Ralph Henriquez and third baseman Stefan Welch have been called up from extended spring training.
