Buffalo Bisons 3 – Syracuse Chiefs 2
Despite issuing five walks, none of them came back to hurt Miguel Batista and he pitched very effectively. He allowed just to runs to score on a pair of sac flies. John Lujan and Dale Thayer held down the fort in relief with Thayer picking up the win after throwing a perfect inning. In the 1st inning Jesus Feliciano was able to advance to third base because of an error and wound up scoring on a groundout because of it. Jordany Valdespin played a big role in his second Triple-A game with a two-out RBI in the 8th to tie things up. It was Zach Lutz with the walk off double to drive in Val Pascucci for the win.
Top prospect performances (Boxscore):
- Jordany Valdespin (1-for-4, RBI)
- Josh Satin (1-for-4, K)
- Zach Lutz (1-for-4, 2B, RBI, 2 K)
Binghamton Mets 5 – Trenton Thunder 8
It is never a good sign when your team puts up 15 hits and steal loses by three runs. Brandon Moore was part of that problem. In his five innings of work he allowed 10 baserunners and had four of them come around to score. He did still leave with the lead intact. Erik Turgeon was beat up for four runs in just three innings to blow the game. As I said above, the offense did have 15 hits, but they were just 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position. That is going to hurt you. In the 2nd inning Kai Gronauer drove in one with a double and Raul Reyes picked up a pair of RBIs with his single. Jon Malo contributed a two-run homer in the 5th. However, despite managing eight baserunners over the next four innings they couldn’t get any runs across. Everyone had a hit except Michael Fisher.
Top prospect performances (Boxscore):
- Juan Lagares (2-for-5, K)
- Reese Havens (2-for-4, BB)
- Michael Fisher (0-for-5, 2 K)
St. Lucie Mets 14 – Jupiter Hammerheads 6
This happens to many times that Darin Gorski is listed as the probable, I see the score is not good, and then it turns out to be Scott Moviel. This is not good news for Moviel, but it is always a big relief to me. Moviel didn’t walk any, but allowed eight hits that caused the five runs allowed. He faced the minimum in the 1st inning and then gave up a run(s) in every other inning he pitched. Kyle Allen did a terrific job in long relief. He finished the game after Moviel only last four innings to pick up the one. Although he only struckout one, he only walked one and that is of greater importance to me.
An absolute offensive outburst. The Mets jumped all over the Hammerheads starter for eight runs. Wilmer Flores got that started with a sac fly in the 1st and then Rylan Sandoval doubled home one and Cesar Puello tripled in a pair in the 3rd. Later in the game Jefry Marte, Flores, and Stefan Welch went back-to-back-to-back with homeruns.
Top prospect performances (Boxscore):
- Cesar Puello (2-for-2, 3B, RBI)
- Jefry Marte (1-for-2, HR, R, 2 RBI, 2 BB)
- Wilmer Flores (1-for-4, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI)
Savannah Sand Gnats 5 – Greenville Drive 3
Angel Cuan‘s good season continued with an impressive start. He tied a season-high with nine strikeouts, while allowing just two runs over six innings. Both runs scored on a double in the 1st inning. Jet Butler chased home the first run for the Gnats with a single in the 2nd and Darrell Ceciliani followed later in the inning with a two-out RBI single later in the inning. The Gnats put together four straight singles in the 4th inning to bring home a run before recording an out and then Wilfredo Tovar drove in two with a single.
Top prospect performances (Boxscore):
- Darrell Ceciliani (2-for-4, RBI, K)

The fact that Domingo Tapia has recorded such few strikeouts is very disappointing. With his fastball alone he should be able to strikeout a batter per inning.

Mark Cohoon start had much better results than last start although the peripherals weren't much better. He allowed 11 baserunners in just five innings that had him in consistent trouble, he just found ways out of it with minor damage today. In the 1st inning there were two on and he got out of it, in the 2nd he allowed a solo homer and single to start things but the Chiefs' pitcher bunted into a double play to limit things, and in the 3rd he allowed a run on back-to-back doubles and had two on with one out but didn't let anymore runs, and then it finally looked like he settled down and was perfect in the 4th until he loaded the bases in the 5th only to get out of it with no runs. Things could have been much worse and Cohoon is just fortunate the weren't. With two outs and the bases loaded in the 11th inning, Mike O'Connor allowed the walkoff single.
Things looked promising early on for the offense. They put up a run in each of the first two innings and managed five hits over that time. Fernando Martinez had a two-out single in the [...]
Stars of the Game: 1. Jesus Feliciano (19pts) 2. Fernando Martinez (41pts) 3. Zach Lutz (35pts)
A terrific outing from Collin McHugh who is having a pretty damn good season for the B-Mets. His command was spot on and resulted in almost a trouble free start. He was perfect in the first two innings, allowed a pair of runners in the next two, and finally allowed a run to score in his 5th and final inning of work when a leadoff walk and wild pitch came around to bite him. Tobi Stoner got abused in releif. Hopefully he is released in the off season.
The 1st inning had a big two out rally from the B-Mets. Reese Havens doubled to extend the inning only to see the Thunder pitcher load the bases on walks and have Michael Fisher clear the bases with a double. In the 2nd inning Kai Gronauer got thrown out at home on a single by Jordany Valdespin. Raul Reyes had a two-run homer in the 6th and Michael Fisher had his second two-out RBI of the game in the 7th that scored the winning run.
Stars of the Game: 1. Michael Fisher (15pts) 2. Reese Havens (21pts) 3. Collin McHugh (4pts)
The rare pitchers duel for the K-Mets. Jacob Lugo and Chasen Bradford were excellent although neither of them is much a prospect at the moment. Dustin Lawley singled home the winning run in the 3rd inning.

Not the best of starts or worst of starts for Chris Schwinden. In the 4th a Josh Satin error put him in a bind with two on and no outs. It seemed like he would be fine when Mike Nickeas threw behind the runner at second, got him in a pickle and the Herd secured the rundown by tagging him out. He went on to strikeout the batter, but then allowed a two run homer for the two unearned runs against him. The bullpen just blew it up from there. Satin extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a 1st inning double that drove in Luis Figueroa. In the 2nd inning the Bisons loaded the bases with no outs, however, [...]

An off day for Armando Rodriguez to make two bad, very short starts in a row. He hasn't even pitched five inning COMBINED between the last two games and given up a total of ten runs. Tonight it was a RBI groundout in the 1st inning, solo homer in the 3rd, and sac fly in the 3rd as well that got to him. Michael Powers and Estarlin Morel couldn't have been better in relief. The offense was dreadful. In the 5th inning when Francisco Pena and Cory Vaughn singled [...]

Ryan Fraser pitched into trouble, but with great results. In the 3rd inning there was bases loaded with one out and Fraser picked up the double play to end the inning. In the 4th he was in a second and third one-out scenario and picked up a foul pop out and ground out. All three of his strikeouts came in the 2nd inning when he struckout the side. Michael Hebert pitched a perfect 6th, however, imploded in the 7th to lose the lead and give up five runs. After letting three straight men reach to bring home a run, Hebert got two straight outs, but then allowed a two-RBI single, hit by pitch, and two-RBI triple. The five runs were all they River Dogs would need. The offense mustered a two-out run in the 5th on a [...]

Randy Fontanez wasn't too impressive tonight. On the bright side he has yet to walk a batter in his last 16.2 innings. What Charley Thurber is doing right now is turning some heads, but it would be nice if he could take one long. Then again, Ike Davis didn't have a homerun for the Cyclones either.

Today marked the professional debut of 1st round supp. pick Michael Fulmer. Things were rough for Fulmer who didn't last a full inning. He never allowed a hit, but walked three of the first four men to face him to load the bases. He threw a wild pitch to allow a run to score just before striking out the batter. Fulmer made a throwing error on a ball back to him that allowed an unearned run to score to end his debut. John Gant's debut was even worse. The 2011 21st round pick walked the leadoff man in is hitting, but picked up a double play to get two quick outs. However, a walk, hit by pitch, and three-run homer killed his day.

Miguel Bautista's command was all over the place in this one and it cost him. In the 1st inning a leadoff double came around to score and then with two outs Bautista let up a solo homerun. In the 2nd inning, Bautista's first walk of the game pushed the runner on first into scoring position and allowed him to score on a groundout the next at-bat when Bautista failed to catch the throw at first while covering for the backend of the double play. It was a leadoff walk that came around to score on a two-out single in the 3rd inning. Bautista allowed a baserunner in each of the next three innings, but didn't allow any runs to score in part because of two double play ground balls. Dale Thayer was brought on to hold the tie in the 8th inning and was successful. In the 9th inning, however, he had runners at the corner and two out, but allowed a single and both runs came around to score.
After it went to a quick two outs in the 1st inning, Josh Satin (single), Val Pascucci (homer), and Fernando Martinez (double) all picked up [...]
Stars of the Game: 1. Fernando Martinez (38pts) 2. Josh Satin (13pts) 3. Val Pascucci (22pts)
Brandon Moore got taken for all three runs in 1st inning. All the runs were products of the two homeruns Moore let up. The B-Mets held them scoreless for the rest of the game. Collin McHugh was terrific in relief, pitching three scoreless with six strikeouts to earn his second "save".
Reese Havens hit a solo homer in the 1st to get the scoring started and then the B-Mets exploded for four runs, all with two outs, in the 3rd inning. Havens got that rally going with a double and was followed by Brahiam Mladonado with a homerun. With that homerun Maldonado became the first prospect to reach 20 homers. Allan Dykstra doubled, Eric Campbell had an RBI triple, Raul Reyes was hit by a pitch, and Kai Gronauer finished it off with an RBI single before the Phillies changed pitchers and got out of the inning.
Stars of the Game: 1. Reese Havens (19pts) 2. Brahiam Maldonado (45pts) 3. Eric Campbell (26pts)
Uh oh. Four more runs allowed by Darin Gorksi. Gorski threw a wild pitch in the 2nd inning to score the first run against him and then gave up a two-out, thee-run homer in the 4th. Gorski was perfect for the last seven outs after the homer. Cory Mazzoni, who was recently promoted, got into his first game today and threw a scoreless inning. After the Mets gained the lead in the top of the 10th, Eric Niesen gave up two unearned runs to blow it, but both runs were entirely his fault as he was the one who committed the error and he also threw a wild pitch that enabled the tying run to score.
The Mets threw up a four spot in the 4th. They had bases loaded with two 0uts and Cory Vaughn walked in the first run then Travis Ozga cleared the bases with a single thanks to an error. The Mets had another two-out rally in the 10th. Cesar Puello singled to start things, stole second, and came in on a Wilmer Flores single. Flores moved to second on an error, which resulted in him scoring on [...]
Stars of the Game: 1. Wilmer Flores (54pts) 2. Cesar Puello (40pts) 3. Cory Vaughn (19pts)
Adam Kolarek's first career start didn't go quiet so well. Kolarek had allowed four total runs in the FSL up until today and let five score today (two were unearned). It was an Aderlin Rodriguez error on the first batter of the game that allowed the first two runs to score, but it is not like Kolarek pitched well in either of the next two innings. Chase Huchingson came in for long relief because of Kolarek's short outing and was sensational to earn the victory.
The offense was on top of things early. They scored five runs with two outs in the 1st inning that was highlighted by a Juan Torres three-run homer. They put up four runs over the next two innings and then Torres hit his second homerun of the game in the 5th inning. Darrell Ceciliani was the only batter without a hit, but he did walk twice.
Stars of the Game: 1. Juan Torres (3pts) 2. Albert Cordero (30pts) 3. Aderlin Rodriguez (52pts)
I just want to say I walked past who I believe was Richard Lucas in the hallway, he is listed at 6'1", and we were about the same height and I might have been taller—I just went to the docs and was 5'11.5". I wish I could just give myself those extra couple of inches in real life so I can be 6'1"/6'2". Oh well. Lucas, by the way, drove in four RBI in the game.

Just as it seemed he was getting some consistency at Triple-A, SMACK! Mark Cohoon throws this clunker up there. Cohoon wasn't missing any bats and got clobbered throughout the entire start. He faced all nine hitters in the 1st inning that included four runs, two hit by pitches, three singles, and a double. Two of the runs scored with two outs. In the 2nd he was fortunate the man who led off the inning with a single made a baserunning blunder and got doubled off first trying to tag up on a fly ball to Nick Evans. In the 3rd he allowd another run and walked two to make it four free passes for the game. He faced just three batters in the 5th inning, got one out, and left the game with runners on the corners. Mike O'Conner allowed both of those runners to score.
The offense was okay, but could have been better. They had four men reach with two outs in the 3rd inning, but got just one run out of the scenario. They had loaded bases with no outs in the 6th and again came away with just one run, a sac fly from Ruben Tejada. With two outs in the [...]

A couple of fireballers getting absolutely obliterated. Jeurys Familia was perfect in the 1st and then the disastrous 2nd inning happened. It was inning where Familia struckout three and there were a total of four men struckout just to show how great of an inning it was. Familia gave up two singles to lead things off, got a swinging strikeout, threw a wild pitch to move the runners to second and third, and then struckout a batter on a wild pitch that allowed him to go safely to first and score a run. He then gave up an RBI single, threw another wild pitch, gave up another single that scored two this time, and finally walked two men before being pulled. Familia gets a mulligan just coming off the DL, but two walks and three wild pitches in 1.2 innings is awful. Rhiner Cruz tried to make Familia feel a little bit better by giving up six runs in just 1.2 innings and thus making Familia the second worst pitcher of the day. Brad Holt was great yet again. He threw 21 pitches and 17 for strikes. Absolutely no command issues today.

Things looked like they would be just another mediocre start for Yohan Almonte early on, but he ended up with a pretty good start. Almonte walked the leadoff man in the 3rd, who came in to score on a triple from the next batter and then allowed a sac fly to score the second run of the inning. Almonte went on to allow no more runs and last six innings while striking out six men. He was a bit wild (three walks and three wild pitches), but it didn't come around to bite him today. Albert Cordero's terrific half season continued with a double and homerun toady. He last two months are a complete revelation from his first two months. Rafael Fernandez had two doubles, including a bases loaded double that notched him three RBI.

Miguel Bautista was not very sharp at all allowing eight hits and six walks in 5.2 innings, but the IronPigs hit a putrid 1-for-11 with RISP to score just one run against him. Justin Hampson left the 8th inning in a bit of a jam and Dale Thayer came on to bail him out and earn a four-out save. Luis Figueroa, Mike Baxter, Josh Satin, and Val Pascucci all singled to leadoff the game to score a a run, but then Fernando Martinez struckout and Nick Evans lined into a double play to end the threat. In the 3rd it was the same cast of characters with Figueroa, Baxter, and Pascucci singling home a run. That was all they got and luckily all they would need. F-Mart picking up the golden sombrero. Doh.
Top prospect performances (Boxscore):

Robert Carson wasn't terribly wild (62.5% strikes), but he clearly didn't have very good command of his pitches with the 12 hits against and the five extra base hits speak loudly to the fact the Senators were squaring up on him pretty well. Carson allowed two singles to leadoff the game and then back-to-back doubles later in the inning to score three runs. Despite baserunners in every inning Carson managed to hold the Senators off the board until the 6th when he allowed a two-run homer.
Reese Havens and Jordany Valdespin struckout with the bases loaded in 3rd to prevent any runs from scoring. The B-Mets loaded the bases again in the 6th, but this time Allan Dykstra delivered a single to score two. Kai Gronauer tripled to lead off the 7th and came in on a Michael Fisher groundout.
Stars of the Game: 1. Kai Gronauer (3pts) 2. Allan Dykstra (52pts) 3. Matt Den Dekker (18pts)
=0. Darin Gorksi's recent "rough" patch continued today. Granted two of the runs he allowed were unearned, but over the last for games he has allowed three or four runs. You can still claim two of those games were quality starts, it is just amazing this stretch is considered a disappointment based off the rest of his season. Gorski allowed solo homeruns in the 2nd and 6th inning. It was a Travis Ozga error in the 5th that should have ended the inning, but allowed a run to score and the play and Gorski went on to give up a double to the ensuing batter and allow a second unearned run to score. Wilmer Flores committed consecutive errors in the bottom of the 9th to allow the winning run to score and tag Eric Niesen with the loss.
Dock Doyle singled home Cory Vaughn (double) in the 2nd to open the scoring for the Mets. Stefan Welch smacked his 13th homerun of the season in the 4th inning and Cesar Puello hit a two-out double in the 6th to score Wilmer Flores and Travis Ozga who had both walked earlier in the inning.
Stars of the Game: 1. Cesar Puello (38pts) 2. Dock Doyle (5pts) 3. Stefan Welch (34pts)
Taylor Whitenton allowed just a single over the first three innings while strikingout three. I have to think the reason he left the game was because the Mets are trying to limit his innings, just as they are doing with Chase Huchingson. Consequently it looks like they are trying to stretch out Adam Kolarek like I speculated. Kolarek had his longest outing of the year going five innings and allowing just a run to score on a groundout in the 5th. This game actually raised his ERA. Kolarek also struckout seven while walking none, although he did hit two batters.
After last night's terrible offensive performance, the Gnats used their legs to get things going today by swiping four bases. After Wilfredo Tovar reached base in the 3rd on an error to extend the inning, he stole second, and scored on a double by Rafael Fernandez. The Gnats had runners at the corners with two outs in the 4th so Alonzo Harris stole second allowing Darrell Ceciliani to drive in two with a two-out double. Harris capped of a three-run 5th inning with a two-out, two-RBI triple.
Stars of the Game: 1. Adam Kolarek (3pts) 2. Aderlin Rodriguez (51pts) 3. Joe Bonfe (14pts)

Same shit story, different start. Akeel Morris puts up crazy strikeouts numbers and barely allows any hits, but walks just about anybody who doesn't swing the bat. His 12.7 SO/9 is out of the world, but 5.5 BB/9 is scary. He definitely has the stuff to pitch in the majors it is just a matter of command and consistency—the two dreaded C's for a pitcher.

Dylan Owen got rocked earlier then settled down and cruised for a while. Owen let four men reach with two outs and faced seven men total resulting in two runs. Owen then allowed a two-run homer in the 3rd. Owen sailed along until he allowed a two-out double in the 8th inning before being pulled and watched John Lujan allow his run to score. Dale Thayer worked a 1-2-3 inning for his 12th save of the year.
The Herd capitalized on Andew Brackman's terrible control issues in the 4th inning. Brackman walked the bases loaded in the inning (to rack his total up to nine in just 3.1 innings) and then Luis Figueroa and Josh Satin each singled in a run off the new pitcher. Nick Evans picked up an RBI with a walk and Mike Baxter finihsed it with a two-RBI single. J.C. Romero then imploded in the 5th by walking two, hitting a batter, and giving up three singles that scored three runs and allowed the Bisons to win. I couldn't be happier to see Satin still killing it since his promotion. I'd give him a cup of coffee in September.
Stars of the Game: 1. Fernando Perez (3pts) 2. Josh Satin (6pts) 3. Mike Baxter (1pt)
Meh. Brandon Moore wasn't very good at all and got smacked around allowing five runs in five innings. One of the runs was unearned thanks to an error by the newly demoted Michael Fisher. The bigger story is Brad Holt and his minor resurgence in the pen. He hasn't been sensational going 3-1, 4.15 ERA in 11 relief appearances, but he his increased his strikeouts while lowering his walks and it has been just a few bad outings that have skewed his ERA. He just might be working his way back to being a middle relief candidate. I'll take it at this point. Erik Turgeon was perfect in the 9th for his sixth save.
Jean Luc Blaquiere had a crucial two-out, two-RBI double in the 6th inning. Not only did he tack on two runs, but he kept the inning going and came around to score on an error in the next sequence. Blaquiere drove in two more in the 8th inning with a double [...]
Stars of the Game: 1. Jean Luc Blaquiere (8pts) 2. Michael Fisher (12pts) 3. Matt Den Dekker (18pts)
Kyle Allen breezed through the game until the 6th inning. He gave up a leadoff single and then a Wilmer Flores error made set the stage for the inning. Allen walked the bases loaded and let a run come in on a single. He got a lucky line drive double play to the second baseman before any other runs scored, but then Brandon Sage replaced him and allowed a three-run bomb. Sage and Estarlin Morel combined to push the game even more out of reach.
Wilmer Flores hit his eighth home run of the year and Jefry Marte stole home on the back end of a double steal with Stefan Welch to account for the two runs.

Ryan Fraser allowed solo homeruns in the 1st, 3rd, and 4th innings. He was in trouble through the rest of the game and saw Joe Bonfe help him out by throwing a runner out at home. Not a good start. Michael Hebert allowed a pair of runs in the 7th inning on a sac fly on two-out double. The Grasshopper starter completely at the Gnats alive with a complete game shutout 5-hitter.
