Spring Training Recap: Mets 7 – Nationals 4 | Mets 3 – Braves 3

Box Score

  • I think everyone’s favorite part of this game has to have been Oliver Perez essentially digging his own grave giving up back-to-back bombs and looking terrible as usual.
  • On the positive side of the pitching Chris Capuano is looking more like his 2006 version more everyday with 5.2 scoreless innings walking NONE and striking out 5. I love rooting for a Blue Devil so hopefully he can keep it up. While Tim Byrdak and Francisco Rodriguez continued their great work out of the pen.
  • You can easily make the case that Scott Hairston is having one of the best spring trainings in the MLB.
  • Prospect Sighting: Lucas Duda didn’t get a hit, but registered an RBI with a walk.  Josh Satin went 0-1 as did Matt Den Dekker who showed off his great defensive skills. Roy Merritt struck out the only batter he faced. Will most likely be this team’s LOOGY next year.
  • Second base competition: Dan Murphy sprayed the ball around again with 3 singles and an RBI. Luis Hernandez delivered a single as well.

Box Score

  • Taylor Buchholz has had a little difficulty with his control this spring, but looks ready to go and should have a spot in the bullpen locked up with another solid performance.
  • Prospect Sighting: Eric Niesen pitching a perfect 9th inning and registering a strikeout.
  • Ike Davis seems poised for a breakout sophomore season to me and Willie Harris has been terrific spring earning a spot on the bench.
  • Second base competition:Brad Emaus went hitless, but walked twice which will go a long way in the eyes of Sandy Alderson.
