Robert Carson had a quality start this afternoon in his 2nd Double-A start. It appears the BMets left him in a tad to long as he gave up just 2 runs through 6, but they sent him out for the 7th where he issued his only walk of the game before giving up a triple to score a run. Edgar Ramirez replaced him with two outs and allowed for an inherited runner to score accounting for Carson’s last run. It doesn’t matter where you put him in the lineup card he will hit as Captain Kirk was moved to the clean up spot and delivered with a 2-out RBI double.

It took a little while, but it seems Cesar Puello and Jefry Marte have finally stepped up and took control of this team. I would like to see Puello add some power to his repertoire but I am happy he is getting on base more to show off his plus plus speed. While he is still sucking Nick Santomauro has also made some slight improvements lately.

Steady Cory Vaughn. He just keeps hitting, stealing, walking, and driving in runs and doing it way better than anyone thought he would. I don’t think Ryan Fraser knows how to allow a run or even a base runner for that matter.

Mets Sign Chad Cordero, Buffalo Affiliate Signs Extension
Posted by: | CommentsEarlier today Ken Rosenthal reported that the Mets reached an agreement with Chad Cordero on a minor league deal.
Cordero was pitching fairly well at AAA this year with the Tacoma Rainiers going 0-1 with a 4.12 ERA in 17 games while earni
ng 6 saves. When he got called up to the big leagues though his command feel and he struggled. The Mariners were forced to send him down and he refused the assignment and became a free agent.
This is a good move for the Mets who have a big weakness in the pen and signing someone like Cordero can’t hurt who had some pretty good seasons back in 2005, 2006, and 2007 then the injuries started. If he can become half of what he was in his All-Star season in 2005 he will be a great addition to the lackluster New York Bullpen.
The Mets also made some minor league news announcing that they have extended their partnership with the Buffalo Bisons through 2012.

Bisons and New York Mets Extend
Player Development Partnership Through 2012
Mets’ Davis, Dickey, Thole, Dessens, Carter and Parnell all started this season in BuffaloThe New York Mets and Buffalo Bisons today announced a two-year extension of their player development partnership through 2012.
Ike Davis, R.A. Dickey, Josh Thole, Elmer Dessens, Chris Carter and Bobby Parnell all began the season in Buffalo and have become key contributors to the success of the 2010 Mets. The Mets and Bisons partnership began with the 2009 season, and 12 of the 25 players on the current major-league roster have played for the Bisons since the start of last year.
“The Mets have proven to our organization and our baseball fans that they care about winning and the team they put on the field in Buffalo,” said Bob Rich, Owner, Buffalo Bisons. “The success that many Bisons players have had this season in Buffalo and then in New York has been vital to the success of both teams.”
“We are thrilled with our partnership with the Rich family and how the Bisons are developing players who are making significant contributions at the major-league level,” said Jeff Wilpon, Chief Operating Officer. “Bob and Mindy share our vision of success on the field and our philosophy of helping New Yorkers make a lasting impact in the community.”
The extension allows the Mets to strengthen its ties to New York with minor-league clubs in Buffalo, Binghamton and Brooklyn. The close proximity of the affiliates to the major-league club in Queens expedites baseball operations travel for players, coaches and scouts.
The Mets first partnered with the Bisons in 1963 for three seasons as the team’s affiliate in the International League. The 1964 Bisons went 80-69 and qualified for the International League Playoffs.

Michael Antonini had been pitching so well up until this start. Everyone has an off game so we can just say that this was his one bad game, but all those hits and home runs are a little concerning, but on the other hand the walks and strikeouts where good. Sean Ratliff has just been racking up the hits lately hitting over .400 in his last 10 games. The best thing about Ratliff is that since moving up to Double-A is that he has decreased his strikeout% by 10% and that has always been his biggest concern.

Brandon Moore was a little messed up by the rain delay during the game, but was off tonight as he uncharacteristically walked 4 batters. The offense couldn’t muster up much to help him. When Ryan Mollica is your best player things aren’t going well. I just took a quick look at Richard Lucas‘ stats and wow scary. He got 2 walks today and still has a 25:101 BB:K in just 88 games. He has hit for more power this year, but the walk rate is down and the K rate is way way up.

As much as I like Darin Gorski I think a move back into the bullpen might be in store we he can dominant opposed to being a lackluster starter. The bullpen was just disastrous and the offense was terrible mustering just 4 hits.

Jacob deGrom didn’t have a particularly good start, but he continues to get ground balls at an outstanding rate. I still really like him because he just does so many things well that a new pitcher usually doesn’t. If he can continue to improve on his stuff instead of just using his good fastball he can become a good starter in the mold of Aaron Cook.
