Yankees Acquire Granderson, Holliday Market Gets Smaller

The deal is now officially done and will be reported shortly. Looking at this deal the Yankees got a steal, while the D’Backs got robbed.

Yankees get:
Curtis Granderson

Tigers get:
Max Scherzer
Daniel Schlereth
Austin Jackson
Phil Coke

Diamondbacks get:
Edwin Jackson
Ian Kennedy

On the deal:

Austin Jackson is a nice prospect, but nothing amazing or that the Yankees will miss especially now with Curtis Granderson, Ian Kennedy is setting himself up as that classic AAAA pitcher, but he could have some more sucess in the NL and Phil Coke is a bad reliever who can be replaced with no problem.  Now Granderson, one of my favorite players, just makes the strong even stronger.  Plug him into that Yankees lineup with the short porch in right field and he is set to bounce back.  If I am the D’Backs I take no part in this deal and I have no clue why they would deal Max Scherzer for Edwin Jackson alone, let alone with Daniel Schlereth who looks like a future closer.  Oh yea plus Granderson has a beast twitter account.

How does this help the Mets you might ask? Well the Yanks were one of the top players in the market for Matt Holliday and now they are all, but surely out of the running.  Scott boras not can not use the Yanks as a team of leverage to jack up the price.  If Jason Bay signs with the Sawx now the Mets are free sailing to Holliday.

Update: Ed Price is reporting that even if the Sawx don’t sign Bay, Holliday is not on their list. This could be shaping up for a very nice holliday for Mets fans!
