Scouting Report: Wilmer Flores, SS
Posted by: | CommentsWilmer Flores | SS | B – R | LoA | Age – 17 | Drafted – IFA 2007
Player Grades
Contact – 50 Now | 60 Future
Power – 40 | 60/65
Discipline – 40 | 55
Speed – 40 | 40
Defense – 40 | 50
Arm – 55 | 55
Instincts – 45 | 55
ETA – 2012
Final Grade – B+
Body Type – At 6’3 175 lbs. he is extremely tall and lanky. His body is still going to physically mature, but he alreayd has a strong longer half and will look to fill out the upper portion of his body.
Scouting Report – As Flores demonstrated as a 17-year-old baby in rookie ball last year belting 7 homeruns the dude has serious raw power. This is thanks to a beautiful swing you can see below.

*Credit to By Grand Design
As you can see from the picture Flores generates most of his power from extremely quick bat speed rather than brute strength. When his body fills out even more, the combination of the strength and bat speed will be absolutely terrifying and gives hope and understanding as to why he receives Miggy comps. He does not have much of a leg kick at all, but he is still able to rotate his hips on time. He has a slight uppercut in his swing that produce flyouts right now, but that will be homeruns when he gets older. Quite advanced at the plate for his age as he does an okay job with pitch selection and recognition, but it is something he will need to work on and that will undoubtedly get better with age and experience.
Defense – Not great defensively and will have to move off short so don’t expect the next ‘Derek Jeter’ like the papers said, but a move to 3rd base or left field would put him as at least a league average defender.
Best Case Outcome – Top-3 offensive left fielder
More Likely Outcome – Top-10 offensive left fielder

Posted by: | CommentsHey guys I am on vacation and for now the only internet connection I have is my G1. Therefore I won’t be able to post any elaborate posts just my opinions and thoughts about the Mets and minor leaguers. I might have a scouting report of Wilmer Flores including a frame by frame picture of his swing so stay ready,

Rough start for Brad Holt who gave up 9 hits and 4 home runs. Even though he walked none reports were that his command wasn’t great and he did have a high pitch count. Good night for the offense with Emmanuel Garcia, Ike Davis, Josh Thole, and Jose Coronado had multi hit games. Lucas Duda hit his 7th homerun and if he squeeze in 6 more before the end of the season he could go from terrible power to slightly below average and raise his prospect status.

Decently encouraging stuff from Scott Moviel as he gave up only 4 hits and was able to keep the ball on the ground getting 6 groundball outs. Reese Havens continues to hit since his return from the DL and if he gets his averagte up to .275ish with the power he is showing he becomes a B prospect. A nice note is that Josh Stinson got all his outs via the K.

For the first time in as long as I can remember, watching the Mets play is not Plan A of my summer existence. Livan Hernandez is pitching tonight? Maybe “Wipeout” is on. Oliver Perez going against the Nationals? Let’s go rent “Watchmen” from that dollar machine at the supermarket instead. Injuries are clearly the main culprit this season. However, watching players like Omir Santos, Jeff Francoeur, and Livan is frustrating, considering the thought process behind their significant playing time. It took a torn quadriceps from Fernando Nieve for Jon Niese to finally get the call from AAA. That he has been in the minor leagues since mid-May is indefensible. In sorry times like this, one option is to call up minor leaguers to see what they can do. [...]
MMO – This Is Your Brain On Mets Baseball
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry about the latest Mets follies, but maybe these will make you laugh. They say it’s the best medicine you know. This first image was taken out of yesterday’s paper and proves that if nothing else, God still loves the Mets. Maybe if we pray hard enough, he’ll send us four starting pitchers, three power hitters, two gold gloves, and VP of Player Development in a pear tree. (Hat tip to Gregg Hopps) [...]
NY Sports Day – With Bernazard The Wilpons Are No Better Than Dolan
Have I missed something? When did James L. Dolan purchase the Mets? Ok, the MSG Boss hasn’t reached out into Queens, but with the way the Mets are acting these days with their front office, you might think Isiah Thomas is running the team. Sure, Thomas is safely away from New York starting his gig as coach of Florida International, but Mets VP of player development Tony Bernazard has become the New Isiah with his antics over the past few weeks. Let’s review: Bernazard proceeded to berate a low level Mets employee because a scout dared to sit in his seat. He then challenged a bunch of Double-A players to a fight in Binghamton taking off his shirt because they weren’t playing up to his standards. [...]
Mack’s Mets – Enough With The B-Met Drama
In one way or another, I’ve been on the same side of the media fence for over 30 years. I’ve watched us turn the news industry into a travelling circus, based solely on getting ratings, rather than content. I was associated for a couple of years with the man that created CNBC and, I always remembered his words to the original people that were behind the desks there: “if we tell someone to buy Cisco in the first quarter hour, find someone to say you should sell Cisco< and put them on the 3rd quarter hour.” It’s all theatre now.
Promote the Curse – Remember, You Help Pay Tony Bernazard’s Salary
Or you, and all the rest of us, contribute anyway. We contribute each time we buy a David Wright t-shirt or switch on SNY. We contribute by supporting this team.
Of everything else that’s happened this season, the news that the Mets have a senior management member who would whip off his shirt and challenge our Double-A team to a fight is easily the most infuriating thing I’ve read about this organization.

WOW! Eric Niesen gets victimized by the Mad Bum show in every which way. Not only did Mad Bum outduel him on the mound with 7 great innings of ball, but he also took him deep for part of a 5 run 5th inning hitting his first career homerun and grand slam. Ruben Tejada was the only one to get to Mad Bum with a solo homerun. Ike Davis gathered a hit off the tough lefty which is an encouraging sign.

Another nice game since returning from the DL for Reese Havens. Havens had the only multi hit game including his 9th homerun of the year in just 204 at-bats. Bad night on the basepaths with Brahiam Maldonado and Kirk Nieuwenhuis getting caught stealing. Decent night pitching for Scott Shaw just a tad too many walks, but solid night overall.

Great night for Chris Schwinden. By far Schwinden’s best night with the K’s striking out 10 Power on hte night and yeilding no walks and only 5 hits. The rest of the pitchers outside of Tim Smith were spotless. Kai Gronauer was the offensive star with a homerun and 3 RBIs. Wilmer Flores also pitched in an RBI.

Much better job for the offense with just Robbie Shields (0-4, K) and Justin Garber (0-0 3BB RBI, 2 R) were the only batters who did not record a hit, but has you can see Garber had a nice game nontheless.
