Lance Broadway was not good yet again. He is still pitching with terrible command and when you don’t have great stuff you need great command. Walking , giving up 7 hits, and throwing 33 balls to 56 strikes is a recipe for disaster on any pitcher and Broadway was no different.
The offense almost made a comeback despite no one person getting more than 1 hit. Jesus Feliciano led the charge with a triple 2 RBI’s and 2 runs. Emil Brown(1-3 RBI) and Michel Abreu (1-4 RBI) also made minor contributions in the losing effort.

I Davis 2.
For the 3rd time in four starts Jenrry Mejia did receive a loss. There is a great recap on the NYFS Forums so I am going to use that as today’s recap.
I was there. And he did hit 102 on the gun. Once. I kept looking at the scoreboard at the pitch speed after every pitch and it is the doggone truth. Now, to be objective here, his FB was anywhere from 91 to 102 on the NYSEG stadium gun. But I can tell you that Mejia’s FB hit 96 MPH consistently on the board with a few 97s, 93s and 94s mixed in. He had this 76-80 MPH slider or changeup that a couple guys swung over the top of. I wasn’t quite sure exactly what pitch it was, but it was nasty.
He lost his composure on a would be a DP ball that went awry. Bowie had a hit and run on and it was sharp grounder to Tejada. He flipepd to Coronado at the 2B bag, but the guy was called safe at 2nd. And on the throw to 1st, the runner had his hands up and deflected the throw. Both runners safe. Oliveros was pissed. He complained for about 5 minutes to no avail. Mejia then, predictably, grooved a FB to the enxt gy who deposited it over the RF wall. That really flustered Mejia. But Thole and Coronado went out to the mound and slapped him o the back with a consoling “You’re allright”. He gave up a double to the next guy, over the CFs head and that was about it….Mako took him out. But I was blown away by the natural ability this kid possesses. At 19, he’s unreal. He completely outmatched some of the Bowie batters. They loooked like they were swatting flies. The ball was past them before they could even swing.
Oh, one last thing. In the 3rd, Mejia gave up a walk and a single and then on a chopper to the left side, he fielded the ball and threw the ball away. 2 runs scored. Youthful exuberance.
As long as I’m taling about the game, Josh Thole looked vry good at the plate. really wide stance. No stride. Lifts his heel and then drops it. They guy never gets beaten on a pitch. His triple was a hard lined one hopper down the RF line. And he ws chugging around the bases. The kid can move for a cather. His single was to the left side ona ball on the outside corner. He had a 2 strike count and went with the pitch and drove it to left on aline. Very impressive AB. The kid looks like a player. He just doesn’t have a homerun stroke. Nothing wrong with that. He also looked like a leader on the field. Definitely captain-like. He threw out 1 of 4 base stealers. One throw went into CF. He looked to have an average arm. All throws were very close. Aside from the throw that was a bit short to Tejada, all throws were on the money. The runners just seemed to have a slight edge on him with the timing. Mejia’s speed helped him out, but Cline’s speed did not. 87-89 MPH FB. He received te ball well and seemed to block the dish well. There was one wild pitch where a runner scored. But it might have been a passed ball. Not sure. Thole seemed irritated by it regardless. Like he should have had it. Looks like a nice prospect in the Dan Murphy mold. Not great, but pretty darn good.
Ike Davis made all the plays that came his way at 1st base. But to be fair, there wasn’t really a difficult play for him. He flipped the ball to Mejia several times. Textbook plays. With the bat, he had a GB single past a drawn in infield, had a line single to RF and he walked twice. Very patient. He looks to have room to fill out and maybe gain a bit more power. But he’s got a nice swing. I’m not predicting Albert Pujols, but Casey Kotchman with a little less defense and a bit more pop seems like a decent guess. Nice start to his AA career.
Tejada is tiny. He makes David Bacani look like The Big Donkey. He didn’t do much with the stick, but played a nice SS.
Edgar Alofonzo looked pretty good on the hill in the 9th. LHP. Sneaky fast FB. But maybe I’m just biased with him being a relative of Edgardo.

Scott Shaw had a dreadful day with his command walking 6 batters in just 2.2 innings and although he only gave up 3 hits he also gave up 3 runs and had to be pulled because of his pitch count. Tim Stronach was just as bad in relief. Things were so bad Jake Eigisti the infielder had to come in to pitch and did better than just about everyone with a scoreless inning with a K.
The offense managed 11 hits, but 9 of them singles. The only extra base hits came from Hector Pellolt (3-4 double) and Carlos Guzman (1-4 double). Francisco Pena threw out 50% of the base stealers going 3-6 on the day.

Brandon Moore was dealing during the first ever game for the Barackland Cyclones. Went 7 innings shutting out the oponent and walked 0 batters. Gave up only 4 hits and struckout 4. He was simply amazing. Military boy Wesley Wrenn didn’t fair so well giving up 3 runs in 2 innings.
Boy has Juan Centeno been impressive in his lmited playing time. Another 2-4 day with an RBI keeping his .500 AVG for the short season. Alex Gregory is hitting a solid .333 and drove in 2 runs with his double in the 5th inning.

Guillaume Leduc was god on awful in the first two innings where he gave up all 4 runs. After then he settled down and was able to last 5 innings striking out 5 batters, but giving up 2 long balls is very concerning. No control issues today as he did not walk any. Samuel Taveras picked up his first save of the year.
Joseph Bonfe had a monster first day as a pro going 2-3 with a 3-run jack and walk. Tyler Howe was perfect going 2-2 with a solo shot and 2 walks. Alonzo Harris and Evan LeBlanc also had notable games.
