Jon Niese was absolutely dealing tonight and continuing his recent success. Over his last three starts he is 2-1 with a 0.89 ERA. He also has great peripherals over that time with 5 walks and 19 strikeouts in 20.1 innings. Tonight was just a masterful start throwing only 94 pitches (64 strikes) over 7 innings striking out 8, walking just 1, ad giving up just 6 hits.
Unlike Niese’s first start in this 3 game stretch hte offense gave him enough support to get the win. Fernando Martinez picked up right where he left off going 2-4 with a double and 2 runs scored. Chip Ambres supplied the power going 1-3 with a homer and 3 RBI’s. The only two players without hits were Luis Rivera and Jose Castillo.

AA – Binghamton Mets
Game 1 – Canceled
Game 2 – PPD
HiA – St. Lucie Mets
OFF FSL All-Star Game
LoA – Savannah Sand Gnats

Elvin Ramirez had a rough night where he could not make it out of the 4th inning that that saw 11 batters come to bat and 5 runs cross the plate. The inning began with 4 straight battters getting on board before Ramirez could record an out, but then a triple, single, and 2 walks later brought across 5 runs and resulted in Ramirez and Manuel Olivares coming in to strike out the final batter. Phillips Orta had a better time tonight with his control walking none and striking out 2 over 2 innings.
An interesting note in the line up was Jefry Marte was playing shortstop for Wilmer Flores who was given the night off. Other than that nothing really interesting taking place other than Stefan Welch going deep for the 2nd time in 51 at-bats for a 2-run shot.
