ByNY Daily News -Pirate Rips “No Class” Beltran for Being Embarrassed by Bucs Sweep
Pirates first baseman Adam LaRoche blasted Carlos Beltran Friday in Houston, a day after the Met said he was “embarrassed” to be swept in Pittsburgh. “I think it shows zero class and zero professionalism,” LaRoche told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “When somebody says that, they know what they’re saying, and they know it’s going to get out.”
NY Post – SANDY’S INSTRUCTION SIGNIFICANT FOR SANTOS’ SUCCESS
Early in spring training this year, the Mets almost shipped catcher Omir Santos to the minors. According to Sandy Alomar Jr., he was close to never even making it to Grapefruit League games. Alomar, the Mets’ catching instructor, said Santos kept dropping balls during the Mets’ first two intrasquad games in spring training. In fact, Alomar said Santos nearly was part of the team’s first cut. Instead, Santos has become a savior for the team behind the plate.
The Star-Ledger – New York Mets manager Jerry Manuel says he ‘could have strangled’ David Wright,’ unhappy with base running
Mets manager Jerry Manuel said he “could have strangled” third baseman David Wright for trying to steal third base in the 10th inning of Friday’s 3-1 win over the Nationals. Manuel met with Wright and center fielder Carlos Beltran for several minutes in his office following the game to discuss their base running mistakes. Wright was thrown out trying to steal third in the 10th, and was thrown out trying to reach third on a botched pickoff attempt at first in the sixth. Beltran was thrown out at third trying to add an extra base to his double in the first inning.
The ‘Ropolitans – F-Mart Did It Again
I was on sabbatical when Fernando Martinez failed to run out the pop-fly in front of home plate two weeks ago. I wasn’t going to blast him over it, but it would be something to bring up and hopefully Jerry Manuel talked to the kid about it. Promising it would never happen again, F-Mart got a pass.Well guess what? It happened again. I’ll leave it to Joe Janish of Mets Today to lay it out:
The Eddie Kranepool Society – CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF THOSE AWFUL NATS
Give credit to Tim Redding last night, with most of management and Mets Fans looking to send his ass packing he rebounded with a strong performance. Sure it was against the lowly Nats but with his job on the line he stepped up. Of all the injuries the one that hurts the least (no pun intended) is losing J J Putz. With Bobby Parnell, a rejuvenated Sean Green, Brain Stokes and Pedro Feliciano to go with Frankie Rodriguez the bullpen is robust and is a big reason not to give up the ship.
