Minor League Movements

The Mets have promoted catching prospect Dock Doyle from extending spring training to the St. Lucie roster where he will be sharing time with Francisco Pena.

Starting pitching prospect Tobi Stoner is joining the Binghamton Mets roster, however, the role he will play with the team is still unknown.

The Mets top pitcing prospect Jenrry Mejia missed his last for the St. Lucie Mets start due to blister issues.

MetsblogNote: Shane Victorino is a Cheater

Last night, Jose Reyes, Carlos Delgado and Luis Castillo did a nice job of chasing down Shane Victorino in a pickle between first and second. However, on the pass from Reyes to Delgado, before the tag, Victorino intentionally elbowed Reyes, and shoved him out of the way, but it was Reyes who got called for interference and so Victorino was ruled safe at second.

NewsdayCiti Field, steroids (duh) and other Friday thoughts

I skip a game last night and the Mets hit three home runs. Did they move the walls in or something? Guess I’ll have to shelve the investigative piece on the psychological effects of the Flushing Canyon. Maybe it was the high humidity last night — or maybe it was just Jamie Moyer. Probably a combination of the two. But as the weather warms up, I don’t see those walls being so unreachable anymore.

Mets TodayMets – Pirates Quick Preview

The Pirates shove into Flushing for a three-game set with the Metropolitans … though I doubt they’ll arrive by ship. They do, however, come battle-scarred. After a surprising 11-7 start, the Bucs have lost their sixth consecutive game and nine out of their last ten, and now sit just above the lowly Astros in second-to-last place in the NL Central with a 12-16 record. In those last ten contests, they’re hitting .188 with three home runs, averaging just a hair above three runs a game.

Always AmazinNiese Shot

With Tim Redding’s eventual Mets debut coming in the very near future, tonight could be a Nelson Figueroa-esque One-and-Done spot start for Jonathon Niese (don’t worry – Niese still has options). Asking around will lead you to believe that Niese has been nothing short of dreadful in his time in Triple-A Buffalo so far. And according to Peter Botte of the NY Daily News, Niese bought into the hype surrounding his alleged mediocrity:

Hot Foot Blog – Where Are They Now: The Johan Santana Trade Edition

With all of the hubbub surrounding Santana’s start to the season, I thought I’d look at the progress of the four players who were traded for the ace. Obviously it doesn’t really matter who Omar traded but it is always nice to track the progress of former Met prospects. Omar probably could have thrown in Fernando Martinez and Jon Niese on top of these four and fans would be hard pressed to complain. You get my point. Nonetheless, here are the four men who will forever be linked to the trade (which is unfair to them):

Where Are They Now?

An update on some of the former Mets that were traded away recently…

1. Mike Carp, 1b Tacoma Raiders (Seattle AAA)

Carp is currently tearing the cover off the ball hitting .329 with 6 homeruns, 8 doubles, and 15 rbi’s.  His K/BB is also pretty solid right now and he is looking like he could make a legitimate impact in the MLB in the very near future.  Kinda surprising how well he is doing.

2. Ezequiel Carrera, of West Tenn Diamond Jaxx (Seattle AA)

Carrera, part of the J.J. Putz trade, is playing a solid defensive outfield and hitting .359 with 12 RBI’s, and 5 steals. The real amazing thing about his season is the 19 walks and 14 k’s.  He is showing amazing plate discipline right now and getting on base at a clip of .490 and a nice 23 runs in 22 games.  Forming into a nice leadoff hitter.

3. Endy Chavez, of Seattle Mariners

ENDY!!! CHAVEZ!!! Chavez is finally getting a chance to play in Seattle and putting up good numbers. .307 AVG, 5 steals in 6 tries, his amazing defense.  A great add for the Mariners as Endy is playing extremely solid for them.

4. Aaron Heilman, rp Chicago Cubs

Heilman is having a pretty good season even though the numbers don’t look amazing.  2-1 4.50 ERA isn’t great, however, he has given up 6 earned runs all season and 5 of them came from one outing.  Only 1 homerun from Heilman is also good for him.

5. Dustin Martin, of Rochester Red Wings (Twins AAA)

Martin was traded in the Luis Castillo deal a couple years ago with potential sleeper potential well it seems like that potential has cooled off a bit.  A .295 AVG with 1 homerun, 8 rbi’s, 7 SB’s is a pretty good season, but he lacks good plate discipline and isn’t poised to hit for a high enough average to make up for it.

6. Kevin Mulvey, sp Rochester Red Wings (Twins AAA)

Mulvey the Mets’s 1st pick in ’06 was dealt for Johan Santana and is developing just as planned.  He isn’t putting up eye popping numbers, but he is 0-1 with a 3.26 ERA and 20 K’s in 19.1 IP. He is going to get groundballs and he is going to keep you in the game just like we thought when he was drafted.

7. Deolis Guerra, sp Fort Myers Miracle (Twins AA)

Last, but not least one other main part of the Johan trade. Guerra has struggled ever since being traded this season going 2-1, 4.07 ERA, and has 17 K’s in 24.1 IP.  The H/9 are pretty aalarming, but inside the numbers he has had 3 good games and 1 bad game this year so maybe he can continue to prove.  For now it is looking like this deal was an absolute steal for the Mets.

Forum Up

I took the Mets day off because of rain to put back up a forum.  It isn’t a great looking forum yet, but after one day it looks pretty good.  I will be updating it even further soon and posting more later.

WOW. WOW. WOW. WOW. WOW. WOW. WOW. WOW. WOW.  That is how many walks the Mets had 9! That is ridiculous.  There is no way a professional team should walk that many batters including Sean Green walking in Shane Victorino for the winning run.  I mean how do you do that just lob one down the plate that’d be much better.

Oliver Perez was just dreadful and will lose his job in the starting rotation after this.  It was unbearable I could not watch him pitch.  I mean the velo is there he is down about 1 mph average fastball velocity from last year, but he is throwing so many more balls. 2.1 innings and 4 runs, but it could have been much much worse if Ken Takahashi did not come in, get a double play, and save him.  I love Ollie, but he needs to go away for a while he hurt this team too much. Let’s all give Ken Takahashi a round of applause for his clutch effort against the Phillies in his MLB debut.

The play that is going to be overlooked because of Sean Green walking in the winnings run is Razor Shines sending pinch runner Omir Santos home on a Carlos Beltran single in the 8th inning with 2 outs.  Just one of the bad coaching decisions in my opinion, you have to burn that extra bench player and put Jeremy Reed in as a pinch runner, who would have likely scored on the play and came on for defensive purposes later anyway.

REMEMBER YOU NEVER EVER WALK THE OPPOSING PITCHER ESPECIALLY WITH BASES LOADED. You get that Oliver Perez?

Mets to See Willy Mo Pena Soon?

The health of Carlos Delgado is unclear right now, and it is being reported that if he has to miss his next start today or tomorrow the Mets will place him on the DL.  The Mets will need to call someone up and might that someone be Willy Mo Pena?

Right now the team is lacking some needed power and could benefit from the monstrous power supply of Willy Mo.  Willy Mo, who was not signed to long ago, has gone 4-10 in his short three game stint at Buffalo with a home run and 3 RBI’s.

He would be able to play in the outfield or first base(even if it is terrible defense), give power off the bench, and bring the “meaness” that Omar wants.(yes its a joke with all the talk of the meaness on the radio.  Knowing the Mets they’ll probably just call up another pitcher, which they do not need and never use him.  I want to see Jerry manage this bullpen the right way not have to call up pitchers left and right cause he is terrible at managing them the correct way.
